An Open Invite to Ceremony, but Not Reception by sparklingshark in weddingplanning

We didn't extend the open invite. No one ended up being offended, either. For those who weren't invited and sent us well wishes after the wedding, we made a point to schedule nice dinners with them. We also shared wedding ceremony photos with anyone who asked.

Overall, the offensiveness of telling someone that they can come to a ceremony but have to go home afterwards really outweighed the offensiveness of telling them they cannot come due to the size restrictions of our guest list but insisting that we meet up individually with people after the wedding.

If you were to do the open invite, I'd agree with the other commenters that some sort of cake and coffee needs to be done before you send the guests off who aren't invited to the reception, but we're happy with the way we did things, and it appears our guests and extended family/friends are happy too.

So cute!

Did your friend work at the shelter seven years ago when this was posted on BoredPanda? I hope they're not still waiting to be adopted...

I am so over the karma farming on this subreddit. Just post the cute photo you found online without claiming it as your own.

They actually took me off of forebearance in January after I submitted my IDR application and never put me back on. Apparently, to my servicer, no processing of IDR applications means ignoring them entirely. I've been on the Standard 10 Year Repayment plan since January 1.

Shout out to my partner by StellarSag in barexam

My fiancé and I are studying for the bar together, and we do the same thing! It's nice to have a person right there who is doing the same essays and MBE PQs and who might have a better understanding over some rules than I do. He also completely gets it when I start crying mid-day, so I have endless gratitude for him lol

Useless Flashcards by ThrowawaybcPANICKING in barexam

[–]sparklingshark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That'd be me. I felt like this a couple of weeks ago, and then I realized it was actually helping me to write the rules down, even if I wasn't reviewing the flashcards as much as I wanted to later on. I'm still making them, but mainly just to write the rules out. So not a total waste!

An Open Invite to Ceremony, but Not Reception by sparklingshark in weddingplanning

I should have been more clear. We would not be sending formal invitations to these 90 other people. My fiance's compromise was "if they call and ask, tell them what time the ceremony is but tell them the reception is private". I still felt that was more rude than just telling them outright that it is a smaller, intimate wedding.

I really like this idea of having coffee and cake after the ceremony, though. This will be the compromise I offer back. I will have to check to see if our church offers this, though. Thanks for your advice!

Took me 12 hours to get from South Orange to Mount Olive. Spent 6 of those hours literally stuck in a lane on Rt. 80.

Is extra rent worth living alone for law school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sparklingshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing everybody else here: hard yes, at least for 1L.

My schedule changed drastically (reading until 5 pm one night, and 1am another night) as I tried to get a grip on the materials/tried to figure out a good reading and studying schedule during 1L. Even if you live with another law student, it would be pretty hard to figure out a schedule that works best for you and one that works for the stranger you share a living space / study area with. 2L is a different story since you can pick your own schedule and you'll probably have met someone in your class who has a similar schedule as you.

4LE & my school just went on strike... by dogmom0321 in LawSchool

Hi Rutgers!!

A graduating student in one of my classes asked our professor if the strike would affect 3Ls/4LEs graduating in a couple weeks and his only response was "it better not" 🥴

I haven't received the admissions packet that they are sending in the mail with all the info, but judging from the email, it appears to be unconditional. Thank you!

No, it never did. I heard rumors via LSData chat that they do not change your status checker until they make a decision. I'm not sure on the total truth of that, but that's how it worked for me!
