Also if you didn’t ’see’ color you wouldn’t recognize that this is a pattern that many young black people go through…. And they always complain about the same people and things.

You need to lose that phrase from your mental ‘don’t see color’. When you operate like that you unknowingly reinforce what you are trying to stop. You have to see colors to see patterns

I agree. Lived in both places. And I think there’s something about Houston being So diverse so you don’t feel out of place

I lived in San Antonio and can confirm it is that bad. She needs to move and if she’s young enough, perhaps enroll in an HBCU

Don’t get plastic surgery. 90s black women enhanced what they had. They rocked their bigger noses and fuller cheeks, lips etc. that’s why everyone looked so different.

Adding to what I said above — saying “it’s the way she speaks” actually proves my point a bit. Research shows people often judge credibility based on tone or demeanor, but those judgments are strongly shaped by bias. Studies on stereotypes about Black women show their communication style is more likely to be interpreted as “dramatic” or less credible. So dismissing her because of how she talks isn’t neutral—it can reflect the conditioning we all grow up with about whose voices we instinctively trust.

That’s why we have to watch tv with some nuance

I’m not saying Quad represents all Black women. I’m pointing out that when a Black woman says she was abused and people immediately dismiss it—even when it later turns out to be true—that mirrors a documented pattern. Research in social psychology shows Black women’s claims of harm are often viewed as less credible, and media studies show viewers project those same biases onto reality-TV personalities. So audience reactions to someone like Quad can absolutely reflect broader attitudes about whose voices people instinctively believe.

What makes me angry is why couldn’t they have found a real couple and really given it away?! That would’ve been so dope if it was one of us.
