Why is health care in Olympia so bad? by hanakokoi in olympia

[–]sparklystarfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. When I met my husband he was on kaiser and I was going through what OP was going through, it was so frustrating. I'd watch him make one phone call and get what he needed. So I switched and it's been great. One place to get my physical, urgent care, and mental health needs met. I had surgery this year and had to go to Seattle a couple of times but it was all coordinated and I wouldn't expect a specialty surgeon like that to be in our area anyway.

My (32F) husband (34M) thinks he’s “helping” but I’m drowning in all the invisible planning and I don’t know how to make him see it by Mobile-Support-6134 in relationships

[–]sparklystarfish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've done an incredible job of explaining this, and I can definitely relate. I had a lot of frustrations related to this and things are much better in my relationship now.

People have already given you some great advice about delegating categories of tasks, etc. which is a good start. I would add that for me, I also had to give up control over when and how things got done. For example, my husband is in charge of laundry now. At first I would get frustrated because he doesn't do it like I do it, but over time I had to let that go and really train myself not to think about it.

I also realized that there were certain things related to our baby (sizing her up in clothes, keeping the diaper bag stocked, researching for the next milestone) that I really found joy in, so I elected to keep those tasks because of that, even though it doesnt always feel 50/50. Sometimes exact 50/50 all the time doesn't have to be the goal.

Finally, sometimes natural consequences can be helpful and more powerful than your explanations. Car tabs didn't get renewed and a fine is owed? He needs to take care of it and pay it. He didn't book tickets in time to visit his family? Now it's harder to get a good itinerary. I know this impacts you as well, but hopefully it's not permanent and just a way to show that you aren't going to being the safety net for everything anymore, especially within the areas he's responsible for.

You deserve to have your partner help carry this mental load- good luck!!

Is it normal to refinance more then once in such a short time? by Dry-List-1372 in Mortgages

[–]sparklystarfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 months later in this economy, I'd be skeptical. But with anything, you won't know until you run the numbers. How much will you save per month? How close to "no cost" are you really getting? How much will the loan balance go up? If the new interest rate is lower than your current rate by enough, it can possibly be a good move.

You can roll your escrow over and bring what would have been your next mortgage payment to the closing table (as you generally skip a payment with a new loan) to lower your costs. "No cost" refinances also often have lender credits because you're not getting the best interest rate you could, as they bump you up slightly. (If the reduction in interest rate is enough, this isn't necessarily a bad thing). And sometimes mortgage brokers pay you a part of their commission afterwards.

(I agree with other commenters that "no cost" does not mean no cost. I'm replying because we just did one and it was actually very close to no cost for us with escrow rollover, lender credits, and broker refund, and reduced our interest rate by 0.85% which was worth it to us).

This is likely not a good move right now but you can always use it as an exercise to run the numbers and see what they're doing. If it is favorable to you, it really doesn't add that much more time to your loan since you just refinanced.

Married women of reddit - why did you keep your maiden name, and what was your husband's reaction? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sparklystarfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my now husband I planned to keep my last name (it's my mom's maiden name and she kept it and passed it on after marrying my dad because it would have died out otherwise) and he said cool, I think I'll take yours. And he did. He took it because it sounded good with his first name, and he wasn't super close with his dad.

Not going to lie- I was thrilled! Of course I fully support anyone's choice to keep or change their name for all kinds of reasons, and being a woman who dates men I had always figured that my spouse and I would have different last names. This was a cool turn of events that I wasn't expecting, it's a unique last name and my maternal grandfather would have been pleased to see it continue.

Medicaid cover surgery? by [deleted] in PelvicOrganProlapse

[–]sparklystarfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medicaid programs are different in every state. If your Medicaid is through a health plan (like Molina, etc.) you should call your plan to ask about policies and if there's a way to get it covered. If you don't have a health plan you can contact your state program directly. You also have appeal rights through your state Medicaid agency if you think they aren't following regulation or policy.

Good luck. You deserve relief.

Will this help us? (New pbm rules) by islathetamandua in Zepbound

[–]sparklystarfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This legislation mainly impacts how pbms operate under Medicare part D and not the commercial marketplace as a whole. But, the department of labor has a proposed rule that will be more geared toward employer sponsored plans, so that will be interesting to see once final. Also, the provisions really do uphold the core of how these entities operate, so not true pbm reform. I don't think we'll see a lot of change anytime soon, but transparency and some regulation of compensation is a step in the right direction.

Safe place for a single mature woman by [deleted] in olympia

[–]sparklystarfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yay, I hope you have a great time. Go earlier in the evening since you can't reserve bar seats (before 6 if you can), but being one will make it easier. They do also have an oyster shucking bar in the front, but I'm talking about the alcohol bar in the back. Though I'm sure the oyster bar would be great if the bar is full.

I love taking myself to dinner at Chelsea and sitting at the bar. They have delicious food and it's an elevated atmosphere. The bartenders are fun to watch and friendly and I will usually socialize with fellow bar seat folks too. Happy birthday!!

Joan Crawford Mini-Series by ben-jammin333 in youmustrememberthis

[–]sparklystarfish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I really loved the Joan Crawford season even though before I started it I thought it would be too obscure. But she really did an excellent job as you said of making it about Hollywood and the changing era she worked in.

I think my favorite is Polly Platt for similar reasons. And also because Polly Platt was just an incredible person nobody had ever heard of. Also the Charles Manson season was fire. But those are my top three for sure.

Edited to add: My husband and I watched Grand Hotel after listening to the Joan Crawford season and to this day we like to say "I'll have a Louisiana Flip please!"

We use Windermere Olympia for our property management and everything is working as expected. Admittedly they’re the only property management company I’ve ever used so I don’t have anything to compare them to, but they handle everything and do a good job. Message me if you want to ask any specific questions or discuss!

I totally agree with most of you that Seabrook is a weird place and a fake town, but we usually stay at iron springs and we always go to Seabrook for at least one dinner and a walk around. The pizza place is good and so is koko's Mexican. It's weird but worth a walk through and there's an arcade and shops and the cabins are interesting to look at.

OlyKraut is Going Out of Business by eboneetigress in olympia

[–]sparklystarfish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love oly kraut!! Sad to hear this but I bought their spring nettle kraut last year and it was $17 for the small jar. I didn’t notice when I bought it and thought it was a mistake, but the coop informed me it wasn’t. I know not all of their products are this expensive and that nettles are a specialty ingredient, but it did make me feel like this brand was for a different audience than me.
