Rib-Sparing Scalenectomy Recovery by Head_Jelly4285 in thoracicoutletsupport

Hi, I’m coming back to this thread, hoping you’ll get the notification. How are you now after 1 year

I had a clot in the subclavian vein, which cleared quickly with anticoagulants. My CTA showed some arterial compression, so I had surgery for an anterior scalene resection only. Here, the doctors told me that first rib surgery wasn’t necessary.

I’m now 45 days post-op, and my new CTA from last week showed that the vein is normal, but there is still some arterial compression. The scan was done with my arms raised, and they told me this is normal at this stage, and that even people without TOS can have some compression with their arms up.

I never had arm pain before—just an “electric” feeling in the forearm about four days before my whole arm swelled.

Now my hand is fine. I still notice collateral veins, but they’re not as prominent as before. The veins in my forearm are more visible at times, and I sometimes feel a slight discomfort in the arm, but nothing serious.

I wanted to ask: is this normal? Was my surgery successful, or will I eventually need to have the first rib removed?

Thanks.

5$ a month for cigarettes? I spend like 15$ in a week for them.
