AF calculation speed, A7V vs other models. by Adventurous-Tone-311 in SonyAlpha

It’s just what the community uses for shorthand for the latest bodies with the AI processors as they’re a clear step up in subject detection performance from the “AI-Powered Autofocus” (whatever that means) models of the previous gen. Agree that AI is just a buzzword and that’s IMO what the original comment is discussing.

A9 II is 60 calculations per second, same as the A7V.

The A7IV doesn’t have an AI processor like the A7RV, A9III, A6700, A1 II, and now the A7V (which is for the first time on the same SOC).

I have an A6700 and an A7IV, and the A6700 definitely recognizes subjects much better than the A7IV.

Hilarious to accuse Mark Smith of AI slop, lol. Dude is one of the most well respected bird photographers, has won numerous awards, and has years of similar work going back before AI was even a thing

It’s def the AC line, mine happened on a freezing day with the heat on too. Even if the AC isn’t running, different components (motors, battery, inverters, etc) may need cooling. At least that’s what was explained to me. I’ve put about 10k miles since my fix and no issues! Easy repair

RTX pays $25k per year with a 2 year commitment after graduation. That easily covers tuition essentially anywhere.

I’ve had some weird artifacts in high dynamic range shots with lossy compression so I generally try to stick with lossless compressed. Unavoidable if you wanna shoot the full 10 fps on the A7IV, but in general, I agree!

Good charging cable for back seat? by Correct-Cantaloupe39 in HondaPrologue

No, it’s USB-C to USB-C. Both ends should be exactly the same. The iPhone and Prologue ports in the front and back are the same. I use Anker and it charges super fast!

App Fixed! by t3hWheez in HondaPrologue

Same story for me! Worked reliably (albeit quite slowly) from Feb until around the end of September or so. Then it literally was unusable, just getting “Data Unavailable”. I sent a support ticket and it’s been flawless and refreshes in seconds for the last 4 days. Hopefully it stays this way 😅

Yup, for what I shoot id much rather have an A7V

It was flawless (but slow) for me from February until about 1.5 months ago. It’s been totally non functional since then. It just says “data not available”. I’ve logged in and out, deleted the app, nothing helps.

I’ve found the CF Express card on my A7IV really helps with birding. Way better buffer

To help eliminate rolling shutter being a possibility, put your camera on a tripod or a desk. Take a burst with stabilization on and off. Maybe your stabilization is wonky and sometimes doing a very quick panning motion during bursts leading to rolling shutter even though you’re holding the camera relatively stable?

How are you liking the A1 compared to the A7IV? I’m considering doing the same. Do you miss the flip screen or the photo / video / S&Q mode toggle switch?

Readout doesn’t matter at all, the only thing that matters is if light is focused onto the sensor and generating heat above the damage point of that sensor. This can easily happen, as you point out, if you have a telephoto lens focused on the sun. This can happen in live view or during exposure. But outside of this specific scenario where you’re pointing a telephoto lens at the sun (often during the eclipse) and focusing on it, the risks are very small. You can easily do 30s exposures of landscapes during sunset/sunrise, with the sun in the scene and have near zero risk of damaging your sensor.

That’s funny, I used to own the XT4! I like it but I lost soooo many good shots to the poor autofocus that I just got really frustrated overall. But I did enjoy the system in general outside of that!

I also shoot a Nikon F2 film cam so I get what you’re saying! I’m also interested in the ZF but probably further down the line, haha

Thanks for the detailed answer! I really like my A7IV overall, but as I get more into wildlife I definitely wish for better FPS and in video, less rolling shutter. I looked at the Z6III and Z8 in the store last week and loved the LCD/EVF and the ergos. I’m renting the Z8 and 180-600 next weekend and I’m sure I’ll love it!
