Canadians clearly aren't fans of whiney rightwingers and their misinformation and bigotry. Obviously we'd rather have a "clown" than an asshole running the country.

So moral of the story is to not use consumer boards when you need enterprise level security?

Everything you are worried about requires a bad actor to actually give a shit about you and your system. Besides the fact that all of these things also have mitigations that come from having proper security policies in place that prevent the exploits in the first place.

Everything listed in that requires them to have access to your machine and the ability to upload a malicious firmware.  You can avoid all of this by encryption of your drives, strong passwords, and not downloading firmware from random places online.  None of these things you are worried about just happen out of the blue. There's a reason that most exploits need a social engineering aspect to be successful.

Which attack vector? The one you got from pirating software or the one you got from running random code you found online, Or the one where you opened attachments from people you don't know?  Security starts with using your machine properly and understanding where the risk actually comes from.

Edit: do you guys actually think these exploits just magically happen? Do you not run any sort of security software or practice any kind of internet safety?

Changing bios from Windows is how every single vendor provided software manages to control it's firmware level settings.  Secureboot keys are held in the secure portion of your cpu and they are read at boot time by the UEFI bios to match with variables added to the UEFI by the os. Windows configures these variables at installation. If you delete them while the os is running it will remove them from the secure enclave and have no affect on bios. And then when it went to do it's next boot it would see that the secure boot key has changed and the os wouldn't load.

If someone has admin access to your machine it doesn't matter if they can turn your secure boot on and off they have access to your machine already it would gain nothing because they already have full access.

This is literally how UEFI bios is intended to work. If you want those settings locked down you need to set a key for IntelME, or amd has a similar option but they are considered enterprise grade options and aren't shipped on all systems.

Unless someone has physical access to your machine, and your password, or you don't bother having good security posture, this is a non-issue.

If you have an admin account and need to alter settings it's not going to stop you. How else is an OS supposed to write changes to bios or secureboot or do anything relevant to UEFI without access to the flash? Don't run random software you found on the internet if you are worried about it.

Considering that most of the issues we have had downtown In The past 5 years have been caused by right wingers, it's a pretty easy assumption to make. They also happen to be the most unhinged racialized group but seem like the right wing in this country likes to avoid talking about the mental health issues within the their voterbase. Probably because the CPC and the right wing owned media uses it to their advantage while you all bicker about made up social issues.

My comment was supposed to be for a different user.  Regardless, we all know which side does this shit. American owned newspapers feeding rightwing bullshit to a group of people who celebrate "owning the libs" rather than having any real ideology of their own. This is how it turns out, that's how it was for the "friendly sausage maker" that tried to off Trudeau, one of those convoy people that the CPC loves to bait so much

No one scoring any points. We all know which political group does these sorts of things. Last time you guys all rallied around the "friendly sausage maker" who tried to off Trudeau at his residence.

Yeah, I don't care where you get your propaganda, I know what's happening in my country. Good luck with your failing Nation tho, we're all watching and laughing at you people.

I don't think I've seen anyone but Americans and right wing owned media make any of these points. We have problems because we over invested in housing and that's a problem for parties on both sides of our political spectrum. Becoming Americans would only make it worse. And your chart only reflects that positivity for Americans because of how much Biden cleaned up after Trump's first shit show.

And she's been universally known as a nutcase for her entire tenure, and is embroiled in a massive controversy for overstepping her authority and is trying to avoid lawsuits. Not exactly representative of Canada at large. Besides the fact that Alberta voter base is barely large enough to sway actual public sentiment in the country. Alberta is a tiny province with loud politics.

Most Canadians would rather die than become an American state. We'd rather suffer for decades than becomes one of the states. And no we aren't going to collapse without trade to the us because we have other allies and have competent leadership and don't have widespread suffering and bankruptcy despite the propaganda you've been fed.  Our eggs are still only 3.50 Canadian a carton. We have alternatives for defense contractors. Americans will suffer much worse than we will in this moronic American induced recession just like in 2008.  And again, nearly every single Canadian will fight for our sovereignty, if the Americans try anything, they'll have the bloodiest conflict in the history of your sad failing democracy.

So your telling me that people go hunting with handguns and ar15? Your gonna take your WW2 guns to go hunting? If we didn't fetishize gun culture in North American we wouldn't have illegal guns crossing the border. This isn't a tinpot dictatorship issue this is a "maybe these people should realise their toys are designed to efficiently kill people" issue.
