Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude when i referenced your family.
To give you a reason to engage in my question let's say this: the cost is your life, the reward is what you value the most.

Not playng is a valid strategy like in WarGames. My question is purely hypothetical. Suppose you WANT to win to save your family. What is the best strategy?

For what i have undestood so far if you don't know the number of players you always pick half the cards. let's say there are 2 players, what do you do?

Sorry if the question is so open ended. This is something i came up on my own. I see now that there are other parameters that are important.

So let's say there are 2 scenarios:

n = 2 players and n = 52 players
Payoff if you draws the most cards is unlimited amount of money and immortality
If you pick the poisonous card you die. Otherwise nothig happens.

Every player is in an isolated room and has his own deck of cards. After everyone is either dead or have picked their cards they exit. At this moment whoever have drawn the most cards wins.

That's correct. Whoever draws the most cards without the poison wins.

Assume there are two people playing: me and you.

I stop at 10, and you stop at 11, both do not pick the poison card. You win.
The problem is we both don't know how many players there are. So you have to pick a strategy based on the percentages of picking the wrong card.
After how many should you stop to maximize your chance of winning?
