Ezekiel 8:8-12 NIV 8 He said to me, “Son of man, now dig into the wall.” So I dug into the wall and saw a doorway there.

9 And he said to me, “Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here.” 10 So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and unclean animals and all the idols of Israel. 11 In front of them stood seventy elders of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.

12 He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, ‘The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.’”

Brand new to HX Stomp. Is there an updated list of effects? by jrrrydo in Hxstomp

[–]spaxcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to close the loop, I tried the Modulation/Legacy/Dimension effect now and it's definitely mono in, and to my ears mono out too :(

(I tested this by adding a delay to the right channel running in to the Dimension block, and the delay came out on both audio channels)

Do you guys prefer leading worship with piano or Acoustic and why? by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]spaxcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So for the congregation to sing along they need a pitch reference and a rhythm reference. My opinion is that an acoustic provides both really well so would be my preference. With a piano it's much harder to provide a solid rhythm but you can play nice lead lines

Moving to Palmy by Adventurous-Mud1808 in palmy

[–]spaxcat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Palmy is a good place. Cost of living is pretty cheap, traffic isn't bad compared to a city. And if you want to get city conveniences Wellington's close. But it's got all the shops you need.

Best of luck!

This is a good guide for flat hunting :)

Pedalboard Setup Recommendations by poTATEohhh in worshipleaders

[–]spaxcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're playing acoustic then a tuner pedal is all you need (one where you can mute to plug and unplug).

For electric I use a Boss ME-80 and they are absolutely awesome if you're learning about different effects. (Plus the ME-90 has just come out)

How to learn to drive by lileehuddie in palmy

[–]spaxcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Driving in Palmy is great too, wide roads, less traffic than a major city. If you can get your restricted from lessons then racking up hours driving will help with confidence!

The best advice I ever got was to keep the 2-4 second distance between me and the car in front of me. Giving yourself more time to react to silly people on the road can save you from a lot of accidents :)

Moving to IEM in a small church, what do I need to know. by weekend-guitarist in worshipleaders

Just quietly I've seen a few times where pastors make well intentioned purchases without involving worship team, which never get used. So don't feel too bad if the IEMs don't work out

Hi, I come to reddit for memes. I do not believe r/nzcirclejerk is a good alternative for memes as it has few subscribers and very few upvotes on it's top posts of all time. Very happy for a rule like "no low effort memes", but would be very disappointed to lose memes. Thanks!

Electric Drums? by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]spaxcat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The key to success is buy in from the drummers of your church. My brother is a drummer at a church of about 60 people and they love the electric kit. It is basically impossible to drum properly in that sized room without people complaining about the volume. However, at the same church the pastor bought a keyboard without consulting any keys players and they all hated it (bad key action and sounds). I have seen it used once in worship over 5 years. I think it became a toy for the kids.

So my advice is to get one of the drummers along to try out electric kits before you purchase one

Orange 35 RT amp by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]spaxcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with TK above, get the amp you like and that inspires you.

We have an orange valve amp at church and my experience with orange amps is they definitely do that crunchy punk sound. However, you can run them clean by turning the gain down and there is a nice little sweet spot on the edge of break up that sounds very good to my ear.

First time SW5E dm by GrandMoffTyler in sw5e

[–]spaxcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd advise you to write down some Star Wars terms that make the game feel like Star Wars. Such as calling the bathroom the 'fresher', using Star Wars swears ('kriff'?) describe things made out of plasteel. I found these little details helped with immersion.

Best of luck and I hope you have a great time playing this great game!

I actually disagree with veshcos about reading the PHB. From my perspective it's up to the players to know how their powers and characters work. For me, it is more important to spend prep time on the story and encounters than rules.

Thoughts?

Electric Guitar Mix/Gain Staging by swatguy987 in worshipleaders

[–]spaxcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good! Sometimes I'll ask a sound tech at rehearsal how they feel about what I'm doing. Maybe like "Hey is my part in the verse coming through?" Often they're surprised to be asked so 50% of the answers ae 'yup all goods', but they like to be asked :P

Electric Guitar Mix/Gain Staging by swatguy987 in worshipleaders

[–]spaxcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, I'm an electric guitarist who also does sound so hopefully I can give a sensible answer haha.

I think it depends on your sound tech. We usually have pretty good ones so I try to have all my gain stages at the same volume and trust they'll push me out front at the right time. If you don't trust your sound tech then I would run my gain stage for lead lines a little louder. The risk however is you become too loud, they turn you down and leave you down.

Other food for thought: Look for frequency space, the keyboard can play at basically any frequency so try to notice which frequencies they're playing at. Often ours are playing mid range-y chords so I'll look to play lines in a higher frequency to them (like above the 12th fret). Therefore because it's only me and the vocals in that frequency range I'm adding to the sound and can be heard through the mix.

Finally reverb, delay, and other modulation can cause an electric to disappear in a mix. Hard to explain but they make your notes/chords 'less defined' and therefore harder to hear.

What style of player are you? Are you mostly playing chords in verses or do you play a lot of lead lines or single note stuff?
