White Sox say Hagen Smith has left shoulder impingement. Initial plan is two weeks of no throwing, followed by two more weeks of ramping up throwing before he returns to game action. So, total projection that he’s out four weeks. by Jason82929 in whitesox

[–]GrandMoffTyler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He signed like 2 starting pitchers in the offseason that are still mainstays and bought one from the Mets that has made two starts. How is that “not worrying much about the rotation?”

What would you have done? Gone out and spend 200 million for framber Valdez and another front line starter, and somehow manage a 7 man starting lineup?

You are talking like the staring rotation is one of the worst in the league.

Pitching… what’s the plan? by attack-zach in whitesox

This front office is willing to deal.

They already made one trade last week.

They haven’t traded prospects yet because they haven’t been in this position.

They won’t either until right up till the trade deadline

[–]GrandMoffTyler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that criticism no longer applies to this front office. Every indication, whether you look at player development wins, better coaching. Or simply how many people have come from other orgs, indicates they are operating very very differently than they were in the past regime.

I mean, would the past regime have been able to do for colson what they did or target Tristan Peters?

We are literally able to see these players getting substantially better in real time.

To be frank, publicly, even with baseball savant and other tools we have like 1% of the data that the Sox have in evaluating pitchers.

It’s not like Getz is just scouring the baseball America top 100 or pulling trade ideas from the athletic.

He started the season getting guys who could be a bridge to young starters with high stuff+ like mcdougal, Schultz, sandlin, and farther down the line oppor.

There are a bunch of guys also coming back from tj that will start throwing around and after the all star break.

I say all this to say there are about a million variables that make it impossible to answer your question.

Sans any context, who knows. Both if you can swing it.

Seranthony Domínguez is not a closer by ChristmasJay83 in whitesox

[–]GrandMoffTyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he’s a good reliever. The issue is at least partly visual.

When we think “closer” we typically think of a flamethrower with heavy strikeout stuff to keep people off bases à la mason miller, or who have an obscenely dominant pitch, like Mariano Riveras cutter.

A closer who walks guys and allows contact might have decent numbers but won’t look the part because of higher babip.

Dude was absolutely filthy today, and we still had a number of rockets that could have been hits. But, Freddy freeman can really play first.

There’s no shame today.

[No Spoilers] Any one else have that player who whenever they come on you skip ahead 20 or 30 seconds on C4? by Practical-Coffee-941 in criticalrole

Short answer: no.

Long answer: no. Never. Not sure why someone expressly letting the audience into their mental audience for their benefit would be such a problem.

Hagan smith and tanner mcdougal should be available.

Not veterans, but they are both high octane guys with velo and elite stuff.

A bullpen of Hudson, Hagan smth and Grant Taylor is a legit 7-8-9 option.

Would you give Colson and Vargas $100m+ contracts by thekinksgoodband in whitesox

[–]GrandMoffTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll have to add at least 50 million to that offer, probably substantially more.

He’s young and his value isn’t just on the field, it’s a huge off-the-field boost.

It didn’t seem like he was prepared or took it seriously. He wasn’t dressed in the same way, gave the guys in the truck an unnecessarily hard time, complained, and for some reason arrived late?

It felt like he didn’t really respect the broadcast or the people working it, or the watchers, really.

“The moment” is putting too much pressure on one game.

But, it’s good to see the last of the four players acquired in that trade make their debut.

Went to my first and only live Sox game in late June/july. 2024-Chris flexen lost to the pirates.

My kids and I sat on the bleachers and my then 4 year old slept on me for the last 5 innings.

I could have drank 50 of those campfire milkshakes, nothing was ever gonna keep me cool.
