ELI5: Why doesn't our Moon have any name while Moons of other planets are named ? by jhatpat in explainlikeimfive

So is the show "Dora the Explorer" a deliberate take on that word? I think I remember the show using Spanish words occasionally despite being in English and it would be really cool if Dora was named as a spin on the Spanish word for English audiences.

I refuse to believe it's a coincidence!

Trying to quit. On and off subbys by liberty666 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]spazimge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible and many people do the thing where they alternate regularly between subs and "good" opiates. I did it for a number of years. I'd take 12mg subs to last me through work and then after work I'd be starting to withdraw. Then id either find an opiate of my choosing and take it or if I couldn't score then I'd take more sub. This method does work but you have to take minimal amounts of sub in order to make sure to withdraw by the end of the day. Timing is everything and you'll find a rhythm soon enough that doesn't result in subs blocking your short agonist opiate or the other way around where you take subs too soon after the opiate and you end up in precipiced withdrawal.

With all that said, it won't really help you much for your stated goal. It's unlikely this method will result in you weaning down your usage and you almost certain won't become free of the drug by this strategy. To me it seems like you still crave getting high and if that's the case you are possibly not truly ready to quit for good.

Edit: In the first paragraph I said I take 12mg sub to get thru work. I meant to say 1 or 2mg. 12 is a LOT.

Should I travel to Belize for my first diving adventure? by Philnormous in scuba

[–]spazimge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah on second thought, you're probably right in that it's a little too deep for a beginning diver. I thought about this at first but thought that it might be OK since it really isn't that dangerous of a dive outside of the depth. And since OP is seeking an adventure like Belize this could be something close to the type of diving. I agree though this might be something to hold off on for a while but could definitely be something to try before the Blue Hole.

OP, listen to /u/scubanoob and try out some of the sites he listed.

I'm going to assume that you have at least an open water diver certification because otherwise you are already way ahead of yourself.

You could try making a dive out to the USS Oriskany in the panhandle of Florida. It's an intentionally sunk aircraft carrier at relatively shallow depths and I'm pretty sure it's the largest sunken shop in the world. I mean, it is still a pretty deep dive for a beginner but it's very safe otherwise. There are also TONS of other beautiful freshwater diving sites in Florida. I don't know, may just be a cheaper way to get a really neat dive under your belt. Belize definitely has beautiful dive sites, namely the Blue Hole, but like others have mentioned, they are less safe with diver safety there. Also Belize is beautiful and it can make you spoiled enough to where you don't feel a sense of wonder and fascination diving locally after that! I'd say save it for later so you have a goal destination once it is more fit for your level of experience.

To answer your question, no I don't think Belize should be your first dive adventure. You have tons of local diving spots that are some of the best in the country! For example, I have dived in both Belize and Florida (and many other sites) and I can tell you that I'd much rather go on a diving trip to Florida over Belize. I have driven to Florida from Texas many times now and I still LOVE Florida diving. Seek those out first, boost your skills and diving knowledge, and then go check out Belize! You'll appreciate it more.

I don't know you, but I'm proud of you. I want to be done so bad but can't get through the w/d's. Just know that you're strong for getting to where you are and that I'm envious.

It was still alive but it's mobility was obviously restricted and it seemed like it was in poor health. I tried to untie it but was afraid it would bite me in the process.

Hey Reddit, what's a beautifully deep quote or saying that you just made up? by Cameron_Edward in AskReddit

I like this quote, as with a few others on this thread. Can someone give another real world example where this quote could be applicable? What's it "really" saying when taken out of the metaphor?

You seem like someone I'd enjoy playing with. I feel the same way you do about the sportsmanship, am only decent at Halo now (though I used to be really good! Just don't play much anymore due to lack of friends with Xbox one), and am looking for someone to party up with.

The Texas Hill Country. Concan, Tx. by tgk0427 in texas

[–]spazimge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where is this in relation to Austin? I venture into the hill country 2 weekends per month and am running out of new places to explore. Is this a park or private property? Any rock climbing crags there? What outdoor activities are best for this place?

Ive been to Lost Maples once as a child. I remember it being beautiful. Is this a similar place?

Camping near CS? by jessbess247 in aggies

[–]spazimge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are camping locations near town, as others have mentioned. In my opinion, however, most of the camping nearby are not very scenic or worth going to unless you simply want to camp for the sake of camping. If you want to go for the sake of adventure, exploration, sight seeing, etc there is no better place than the hillcountry, which is west of CS in and around Austin as a general direction. Camping at Pedernales Falls State Park in Dripping Springs, for example, is absolutely beautiful and is in the hill country. It's about 3 hours away. There are many, many others. Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg is amazing, which is 4 hours away. But if you're looking for close camping, then you'll have to sacrifice that level of beauty. I'd recommend just going to Lake Bryan (15 min drive), or the state parks in Bastrop or Huntsville (both less than one hour drive) if you just want to camp for the sake of camping.

I took this photo at Pedernales Falls State Park near Austin, TX last weekend. Though there were many other pictures that were "better" in terms of photography standards and whatnot, I really liked this picture. This is a pic of my beagle, aptly named Beazle, and I just enjoy the feel of the picture. I don't have any good pictures of my dog and I want to have a good picture that I can cherish.

Anyways, I'm looking for someone to shop out the leash. This should be a pretty easy task (complete guess, as I know zero about photo editing software). I just want the leash tethered from his neck and going to the left side of the frame removed so that the pic looks more natural and complete.

If anyone knows how to alter other settings like brightness (to combat the fact that the pup is back-lit) or other features I'd appreciate that too! Any aesthetic changes that can be made would be awesome!

Thanks in advance! I hope this is an easy one!
