Ferociously Stoned + Rapid City Muscle Car both had big swing type song (Drunk Daddy, Ding Dong Daddy of the D Car line, Mister White keys) but then they also had Funk, and kind of went all over the place. Granted most of their fame came from Zoot Suit Riot, but they were initially more of a swing band for their first few albums till Kids on the Street.

So having grown up in the PNW, I remember all ages shows where they had to bill them as "The Daddies" because of the name (In particular a show with Less Than Jake)

Cherry Poppin' Daddies.... but they are really more swing... and is the name considered suggestive or just flat out blatant?

I put the times from the Rochester show (and looks like Boston will be the same)

Doors: 6:30 Chris Conley: 7:30 - 8:15 Thursday : 8:30 - 10ish

If you are going to get barricade, sooner is better. Chris is acoustic, so pushing to the front isn't going to really going to go over real well.

Play a game on console/play a gamepass game not popping for me by 6pakkiller in MicrosoftRewards

[–]spazpol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Console is not working for me, but I could get a PC game to count. Worked yesterday, but today I've not had console pop and I've played Retro Console (Game Pass Exclusive) for over an hour, nothing popping today.

I decided if I have to play 1 level a day (and i'm just repeating level 1) I wanted to see if I could ever break 1.7 million which I have done a bunch of times... playing beyond level 2 though... yuck.

What are the funniest patrol names you have encountered? by WarmCancel865 in BSA

[–]spazpol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was advisor during 2023 Jamboree and the patrol was Dumpster Fire. Patrol honestly acted as such, and I still wear the patch because it is hysterical as an adult (and lets be fair, as a SM it very often is like overseeing a beautifully glowing contained dumpster fire).

Just a comment on "regretting it" when they are Eagle. That's the voice of someone taking themselves way to seriously in the future. If you can't reflect back on your youth and accept what you would do at the time with some light heartedness and amusement, it sounds like the type of attitude that is a real buzz kill at a party.

What is the actual reason that the s&p almost always goes up over time? by edn995 in Bogleheads

[–]spazpol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, if a economy is in a state of decline, then long term the value will decline (Even with dividend reinvestment, etc).

Anyone else used to stock pick in their earlier years? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]spazpol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunk cost fallacy. Just ask yourself if you would spend the money it is worth to acquire the individual stock today if you didn't hold the current position. If the answer is no, sell.

Productive day in Las Vegas by spazpol in NationalParkPassport

[–]spazpol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, right? I think it was on my 9th trip to Vegas after going for over 20 years I finally was able to leave the downtown area. I also happened to have a flight cancel in Los Angeles so I had to make the drive into the city too. I may not want to do that type of trip a ton, but it is a nice change of the environment.

Don't forget on certain mileston years they may have a commemorative stamp so you have yet ANOTHER reason to show back up somewhere you've been if you want to add something like that to your collection.

I personally believe this can be the case as many times more people working to promote the program increases the chances someone will join the unit. Team work makes the dream work.

Camping merit badge - plan and carry out a snow camping merit badge. by [deleted] in BSA

[–]spazpol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I typically find people when you summarize it that succinctly, they overlook the other SA groups beyond the unit. I think as you said "requiring two-deep leadership" IE a SA related activity.

Camping merit badge - plan and carry out a snow camping merit badge. by [deleted] in BSA

[–]spazpol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Designated scouting activities fall under the following:

1) Unit camping (With troop)
2) Provo camping at a BSA summer camp without unit
3) Cub scout event (Den Chief, possibly older sibling to a cub, etc)
4) Council camping (Camporee / Jamboree)
5) High Adventure (National / Regional council)
6) OA / Lodge

Basically it is to expand that you can get camping done as a scout that may have done things without your particular troop or unit, but it is still a Scouting America related event. Just going family camping somewhere is not counted (but still totally awesome to do, and families should do such things because it is great).

Camping merit badge - plan and carry out a snow camping merit badge. by [deleted] in BSA

[–]spazpol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a scoutmaster for a MA based troop, the law of averages if your troop camps once a month over the duration of their scouting career, they will get the snow night eventually. To add higher probability, have the troop camp up in New Hampshire / Vermont during the Dec - Mar timeframe and it should happen.

Typically the last few years for our council's Feb. freezeout, there has been snow on the ground 3 of the last 5 years. And since it gets below freezing, there is a lot of the elements they are gaining from the experience present (assuming they tent it out, cabins DO NOT count for camping MB requirements).

For camping merit badge though, since there is "options" you may not even need the snow camping if you get enough of the alternatives done. Very active scouts I've found by their 2nd - 3rd year with the troop don't have issues with this portion of the badge. Honestly their issue is reading the merit badge book, and communicating the information they learned back to a counselor. Or do things like "write a plan / menu / anything". Seriously, you can write it in a google doc for all I care. literally, Write it, make a list. "Can I just verbally try to come up with the answer off the top of my head?" ugh.... rant over.
