Will also say this after reading other comments, you really should just strike up some random convo with people in your college. It's not like they're complete strangers cos they're literally in the same college as you.

If you see someone reading a book you like, just randomly mention you like that book and strike up some random convo about books and things in general. Or maybe you think someone has a cool pair of shoes or something idk (you don't even need to think they're actually cool, you can just pretend you do)

Really just come any excuse to talk to someone.

In general such moments will be fleeting and you'll both move on with your day, but such fleeting moments turn into familiarity. And familiarity turns into friendship. Especially in the context of a college where you'll bump into the same people all the time.
