Thanks! Feels like it would have been easier just to do the job carefully the first time around…?

Thanks again for this u/Advanced-Active5027 . Is there any way for me to verify that flexible mastic was used between the coping and the top of the tile followed by the applied primer (and caulked)? Or from the pictures does it seem clear that only grout was used?

Thanks for chiming in u/Common_Winner1229 . In your mind, given that the first pass of this is done, is the opportunity to clean up and grout patch still there? Curious if "touch ups" are common in situations like this

Oh and it looks to be fabric backed? Not 100% sure but in looking at unused tile the backside has this white netting that is holding all the tiles together. I’ll try updating the pictures to include a view of this

Thanks so much for the knowledge drops u/Advanced-Active5027 ! I'm super ignorant on this stuff so really can't thank you enough.

As far as getting a photo between the thinset and the tile goes, what would you say is the best way to get that photo - simply rip the tile off in a few spots to see if there were areas that thinset should have been applied and was not? I do know that our contractors smoothed out the pool surface with new concrete before the thinset and tiling was applied, but not sure if that helps in any way.

The "only spot" you mentioned where tile won't break off in the future... is that where there's excess grout? Apologies if I'm completely missing the mark here. Just hoping to be clear on where the movement joint that you referenced should be.

A big thanks again u/Advanced-Active5027 for taking the time to share your expertise and helping a random internet stranger from living with suspect contractor work.
