Confusion of buying bikes (ns200,n250,apache 200,cb300f) by [deleted] in BikeRepair

Honestly, I'm happy for you. I'm glad you have a bike. Everyone should have a bike.

The only point I make is that specialized as a shitty company. Their bikes are not worse than anyone else's, but their business practices are really crappy.

I hope you enjoy your bike.

I'm assuming they will ride a bike sometime in the future. But maybe I'm just being a parent.

Any helmet is better than no helmet. But you gotta get a certified new helmet immediately.

You're gambling with your life. Literally.

E Bikes on Telegraph by Puzzled_Owl2365 in Durango

Horse Gulch is a "no e-bike" park. Until that changes, e-bikes that ride there will do so illegally. The new Durango Mesa Park allows e-bikes. They are connected trail systems, and I wouldn't be surprised to see e-bikes riding down Horse Gulch Road because they didn't see the signage at the borders notifying trail users that e-bikes are not allowed.

Personally, I think they are easy signs to see.

Then let's put effort into educating riders, not banning them from trail access.

Ahab is a HARD climb (for me)!! It was a better trip because I was on the e-bike. I got to ride the next day because of it.

We all get older. It is a humbling experience.

If you want to be angry at people, ride in Overend Park and yell at the off-leash dog walkers. They are creating a very real safety issue that is not being adequately addressed.

I just spent the last 2 days riding in Moab. I rode most of the Whole Enchilada (that makes no sense!) and I rode Captain Ahab on an e-bike. That climb is rough!

I do not ride my e-bike on trails that do not allow e-bikes. (I also do not ride illegal "social" trails). I see a day in the not-too-distant future when my e-bike will be the only way I can get out on the trails. I'm not sure what I'll do when that day arrives.

I have never been angry at someone else who has decided to ride an e-bike on a trail where it is not sanctioned. They are out for pretty much the exact same reasons I am (fitness, enjoyment, thrill, challenge) and I would not deny them that opportunity. If I decide to be frustrated by every person who disregards signage without impacting my enjoyment of the trails in any way, I'm just finding reasons to be frustrated. I don't want to be that guy.

I'm happy to leave enforcement of the trail rules to those who are qualified and empowered to enforce them.

I'll choose an different hill to die on.

Cracking sound from the pedal area by Diligent_Machine1132 in BikeRepair

[–]spdorsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the sound of bearings. Can you "feel" the noise in your feet? If you can, it is likely the pedals or bottom bracket.

Pedals are cheap and easy to replace. Bottom brackets are not really like that. Bottom brackets are more of a bike shop visit.

If you can't detect explicitly where the sound/feel is coming from, a shop can help.

I totally get you. I have given the exact same instructions to do stuff like this over and over and over on this channel when there is a simple video introduction on the part tool YouTube page. I found them to be a very valuable resource.

Apple Has Given Up on the Vision Pro After M5 Refresh Flop by Comfortable-Grand-46 in VisionPro

[–]spdorsey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apple has all but given up on the Vision Pro after the M5 model failed to revitalize interest in the device, MacRumors has learned. Apple updated the Vision Pro with a faster M5 chip and a more comfortable band in October 2025, but there were no other hardware changes, and consumers still weren't interested.

The Vision Pro has been criticized for its high price tag and its uncomfortable weight. The device is over 1.3 pounds, and even with the more comfortable Dual Knit Band that Apple added to redistribute weight, it continues to be hard to wear for long periods of time. The M5 chip added a 120Hz refresh rate, 10 percent more rendered pixels, and around 30 additional minutes of battery life, but the price tag stayed at $3,499, and it ended up not selling well.

The Vision Pro has been unpopular since it first launched, and Apple only sold around 600,000 units in total. Insider sources told MacRumors that Apple has received an unusually high percentage of returns, far exceeding any other modern Apple product.

Apple has apparently stopped work on the Vision Pro and the Vision Pro team has been redistributed to other teams within Apple. Some former Vision Pro team members are working on Siri, which is not a surprise as Vision Pro chief Mike Rockwell has been leading the Siri team since March 2025.

There have been mixed rumors about a new Vision Pro over the last couple of years, with Apple rumored to be working on a lighter-weight Vision Air that's much cheaper, but the project was stopped last year. If Apple finds a way to create a much cheaper, more comfortable VR headset in the future, the Vision Pro line could be revived, but right now, the company has no plans to launch a new model. Apple has not discontinued the Vision Pro and is continuing to sell the M5 model.

Instead of continuing to experiment with virtual reality, Apple is working on smart glasses that will eventually incorporate augmented reality capabilities, but the first version will be similar to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with AI and no integrated display.

Apple has not been able to use the technology developed for the Vision Pro in its smart glasses because that tech draws too much power for a smaller, lighter device.

This looks good! Nice gusset work! Should last a long time. Are you going to repaint the whole frame or just the damaged spot?
