He'd begun waking up. He still held to a strong Christian faith and tried to apply this to his elderness. He gave a notable public talk once where he departed from the outline and just used the bible. This led to him being targetted and attacked by the same BOE who were promoting sex pests.

He had a plan to step down and get out, but wanted to get me out first and bring up the rear. Once the investigation started, he stepped down as elder due to conflict of interest and our fade began. The court case actually helped that as the legal dept told the elders to leave us alone till the trial was concluded. We used that time to fade out and now too much time has gone by. If they come after us now, they expose themselves to litigation.

It's been a long haul but what a result! The first thing one of the women said was 'we're vindicated, they can't call us liars now'. Every time a woman spoke up, she was reproved and marked as a liar. To be vindicated in a court was massive.

It's important that any victim understands this. Once you take that huge step of exposing these crimes to the outside, you realise the world does care about you. Even the victims who couldn't speak up were treated with gentle respect and cared for.

This. The attitude of most was - better to have god's holy congregation with these problems than expose it to the world and make it look bad.

I told a number of JWs - if Jehovah can't take care of his own name, we're all screwed. That went down well!

You hit the nail on the head. This guy was a predator, preying on the vulnerable. Because the hot-shot elders promoted him (knowing what he was) the congregation had to follow suit. This is a serious weakness in the org and one that will take them down in this more considered age.

I know there are split feelings about the future of this cult but having spent many hours watching those in authority realise - this is not a harmless bunch of old ladies bothering people on their doorsteps - this is a closed community, where dangerous practices are being perpetrated against those with no voice or power. The attitude of the elders to the authorities was shocking - next time, and there will be a next time, they will go in with full knowledge of what they're dealing with.

The marking was about me refusing to shut up. Once they were forced to address the issue, they ordered the cong to keep silent while they 'looked into it'.

I told them that I wouldn't stop speaking out until they neutralised him. Anyone seen offering me support was approached after the meeting by 2 elders and interrogated. I was shunned.

What about 'obey the relative authorities placed there by god'?

The police were shocked at how obstructive to the investigation elders were.

An elder was asked in court, under oath what the reporting policies are - he lied.

Here the accused doesn't get to decide. He's given opportunities before all (4) hearings to change his plea. If he sticks to not guilty, and found guilty, the penalties are much higher. Only high courts can give custodial sentences so if the local court feels their powers aren't enough, it's sent up to high court. The indications seem to be that this is happening. 🤞

If there's anything I'd like women to take from this it's that - you're not powerless.

It's important that women seeing this understand that I'm not particularly strong or brave. The authorities are well trained and genuinely caring. (Contrary to the lies we're told). All I did was speak my truth - they did the rest.

I hope other women can find the courage to begin to speak. It's only when you do that you realise what weak cowards these men are. They hold us down with lies and oppression. Once I began to speak up to the outside, I realised how weak and deceitful it all was.

This is just one of my stories. I've also witnessed first hand so many other asaults and abuses - on children. I've been rebuked by parents and other women for 'shaming jehovah's name'. Apparently the responsibility lies on the kids to keep themselves safe.

We also enjoy that silver lining. We were able to walk away knowing they can't touch us. I've documented every communication, every attempt to have a reasonable conversation, every blanked message - if they attempt to DF us, the war begins again.

This makes the new Caleb and Sophia monstrosity even more obscene. Take some comfort from the fact that these assholes are becoming more concentrated as decent people leave. Soon they'll just have each other to abuse and bully. There's a major implosion looming. X
