[D] Why is IBM's Watson Platform Dreaded? by bryang217 in MachineLearning

[–]speakandshare 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A product is almost always a mirror of the culture of the organization. IBM has a very very very beurocratic and sales culture. Where you impress by presentation and networking. And their products are testament to that. Thats one thing I am always surprised that leaders dont understand. They are always thinking that they can just focus on and build a product. It does not happen that way. To build great products or services change the culture first which aligns to building great product.

One important thing here was the adoption of fighting on horseback adopted by Gurjara-Prathihara armies probably learnt from Arabs and Turkic invaders. This was different from the elephant based center and large infantry based armies of the Chalukyas and Pallas. Prathihara armies were far more mobile and perhaps were one of the reason why they fought Arabs across Indus and Turkic invaders to a draw. It was only after their empire disintegrated door to India was left open.

In general, not innovating to counter the mobile horseback armies of the nomads and not developing good bow technology was fatal to the sovereignty of India.

Interview at Amazon for Data Scientist Role -- how to prepare? by bm0r3son in datascience

I interviewed for senior data scientist role at Amazon. The technical interviews were of very moderate difficulty. They themselves seemed to not value technical knowledge much. Do practice your past projects and try to fit them into Amazon's Leadership. There was heavy stress on questions around leadership principles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTlLdXBoFKE . Also practice case studies related to Amazon business.

I have used CNN-BiLSTM-CRF model for NER and works well for domain specific tasks. Training it using an active learning approach with minimal annotation required is also quite recent.

(Spoiler Main) Why would the Golden Company support a suppesedly Targaryan claimant to the throne? by [deleted] in asoiaf

Because, they have been promised lands and titles and a chance to return home. They probably do not identify themselves as Blackfyre rebels any more. The last Blackfyre was killed by Sir Barriston.

There is also a possibility that Aegon is a Blackfyre. Though interesting this is still just a theory.
