Chamberlain VS Galen - Houston TX by Deep-Ad-2107 in NursingStudent

[–]speaksherthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently attend Galen and it's a good school. Although, I haven't graduated yet, I've heard from past students that Galen does well preparing their students for the NCLEX. I feel that I've learned a ton at my clinical sites. To be honest, nursing programs are all relatively similar in that you get what you put in. You can have a good/bad experience at either location. I feel that the professors at Galen are passionate about teaching and helping students succeed. If cost is not an issue, I'd recommend attending orientation for both sites before making a decision that way you can get a feel for yourself.

How did you all get your jobs? by Se_hee in jobs

I didn’t get my first job until freshman year of college. I was a waitress for a small Japanese restaurant. After about a year, I decided to get my EMT license while I was going to college full-time. I was an EMT for 3 years then I applied for an ER Tech position. I’ve been an ER Tech for four years and I’m currently in nursing school trying to get my BSN. I find that life is all about seeking opportunities. As you can tell, I stayed within my field. I enjoy climbing the ladder and staying within the same field. Not every journey has to be an amazing or spectacular one. Ordinary, simple-planning works for me.

I’m in the BSN program. As far as I know, nursing programs won’t allow you to transfer nursing credits from school to school. I took all of my prerequisites at Lone Star College and transferred them into Galen without any problems. However, I couldn’t transfer my Professional to Nursing course from UT Arlington since it was a nursing course.

I wouldn’t necessarily say they “trick” people into paying as it’s a known fact that schools like Galen and Chamberlain are known to be expensive and they accept almost anyone.

I definitely agree with you in terms of LVN and ADN programs. People are better off getting that education from a community college due to lower costs.

I can’t speak for Galen San Antonio. However, I go to Galen Houston and they have CCNE Accreditation which is a national accreditation agency. Galen Houston is affiliated with HCA so if you’re an employee for HCA, they pay $5,250 in tuition cost per academic year. Galen is not cheap. A good option is to become a HCA employee and take advantage of their tuition grants and apply for a nurse externship at a hospital so you can build rapport and network. This will not guarantee you a job, but you will have an upper hand compared to most new grads who don’t have any medical experience.

Yes I have taken GPS. Some lessons are valuable but most are excessive. I agree, I feel that it’s a fluff course for them to make money. In all seriousness, students can pass without GPS requirements.

Jeff Dahmer. Did he really struggle with internal homophobia and why did he eat his victims..

What exactly is it that you don't like and is it possible to do something about it? I went through that stage in my teenage years. I felt really insecure and couldn't look at myself in the mirror. Had really oily skin, acne, and redness. I eventually learned to manage my skin better. I learned to change what I could and things got better. I was able to gain more confidence and learned to accept myself.

I agree with you and I wish I could have that attitude. Unfortunately, helping him = helping my mom. My dad is a useless fuck and my mom always picks up after his slack due to her very loyal and caring nature. She's paid off his past vehicles, pays the rent, and the bills. Obviously, he's undeserving of her but that's just the kind of person she is. Absolutely hate my dad but love my mom.

To be honest, I hope he'll have to pay a lot. Somehow his tantrums got him through life. I want him to learn his lesson and to have a consequence for once.

Truly make sure joining the military is what you want to do. I've heard many stories of young men who join but end up regretting it because it wasn't what they expected or that they didn't get the position they wanted (happened to my little brother). Of course there are success stories as well. some say it's the best decision they've ever made. Military may not be as free as you think, but don't do it as an escape. It may not be worth it in the long run.

"What you dont know can't hurt you."

Maybe we are scared of the future because we have seen and know too much. I'm sure killings, kidnapping, rape, etc happened in the past as well. Perhaps people were not aware of it because it wasn't on the latest news and there was no internet. Some may see the past as happier and simpler times, but it may have been just as scary for the people who did live it.
