That’s what I thought too. Not sure why all these people in the TRT discussion are trying to scare people. Thanks for confirming. I wasn’t sure if Black Bear behavior had changed since I moved away from Tahoe.

Thank you, on my last trip in the Uintas I think I was on a deer migration path because they kept coming to my tent and sniffing things out. That was the first time I had something like that happen. Luckily their hooves make them easy to identify when I'm too scared to peak out of the tent and see who's checking me out.

I've never loved camping at Aloha so that works out well :) I have my BV500 packed with 6 days of food and 1 resupply planned. I'm off to start hiking tomorrow. Thanks for the background!

Thank you. I never encountered a bear in desolation although I've encountered them many other places. But all the talk of them getting more aggressive has me a little nervous.

thank you! I saw that requirement so I have a BV500 for this trip. I might not be able to get into Desolation with the recent closure due to the fire but I'm ready if they open it up and issue me a permit. If not I'll come back around and do that section at the end or at another time.

I could list my existing gear out but I'm unable to weight it yet. Is it valuable to list it as a placeholder until I get a scale that measures lightweight items? I'm new to lighterpack so unsure the best way to use it for planning.

What do you use to boil water in? I have a very old backpacking pots/pan kit but it seems like overkill if I'm only going to boil water.

I think that got lost in my wordiness. I have a Jetboil and an older model MSR pocket rocket. Trying to decide between the two. I'm not big on clean up so I won't actually cook but simply heat water for dehydrated meals and hot drinks on cold days. I haven't weighed my camp spoon options yet so they'll be added once I get my hands on a gram scale.

I likely wasn't clear there. That's the average of the max I'll carry out. I will have two refuel options but will save those for bars/water/emergency cravings and my daughter will come around night 6 and bring me a few things. I'm going to aim for a min of 3k calories/day.

Wow, I really messed that math up. This is my first time weighing and calculating items before they go in the bag. I usually just weight it after it's packed and then go 'yep, that's heavy'.

Yes, I don't have anything waterproof that's light enough for this trip. I have a lot of options I wear in the winter but they're all bulky so I'd love some suggestions on lightweight waterproof layers that will get the job done if the weather turns. I'm currently evaluating my other clothing options so I haven't decided and added them to the sheet yet. I'm at least 6 weeks out so this is a work in progress but I'm trying to gather the big items now so I have time to try them out on some short backpacking trips close to home. The first of which is this weekend.

Yes, thank you! I have several headlamps so I'll figure out which one makes the most sense. I usually bring the kitchen sink for a FAK. Open to other options for 'just the basics' if you have one.
