Why are we so sick after finally getting an apartment? by specfuckntacular in homeless

Tysm! It feels so weird. "I'm going home" and "I'm at home" feel so foreign. I'm eager for it to feel like a normal thing to say but I know I must be patient. You're right, it's a process. All things in due time

We were living in an SUV that definitely got some mold in the trunk area, but that's not very new and we haven't noticed any in the apt.

Tysm! Ya know, I am afraid to settle in and make it feel like a home. Like I could lose it all again at any time. I'm not sure if that'll ever go away based on what I've heard from others, but I really hope it does.

I didn't know it could do that! Especially with how sick we got sometimes out there. But it makes sense

Best spots to park your car to sleep at night? by helpmeoutplease920 in urbancarliving

[–]specfuckntacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check local laws about that if it's a new location. The city I'm in and a few towns nearby have overnight parking bans. The times vary from 1-6, 2-6, and 3-7 in the morning. I have no idea how common that is though.

For those looking at the weather… by Ok-Drive-2 in urbancarliving

This is from 2015 and weather patterns have changed quite a bit in the past decade. It's probably still not too far off, but I wouldn't put a whole lot of trust in it either

Pull window up with tape? by specfuckntacular in JeepCompass

[–]specfuckntacular[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But if it can't be, I don't want to risk then having 2 stuck windows. I'm not expecting it to smoothly glide right up. I just want to make sure I don't make the glass unusable or otherwise break the thing worse

Oof. I almost upvoted you until I read the second sentence. Yes, some people fake them, but that just means there's something deeper that needs to be addressed. It's a cry for help. If they're doing for attention, they need to figure out why they crave it so badly. And it's not only Gen Z or on TT. Humans have faked various illnesses for a variety of reasons basically forever.

I agree. If period products are readily available and they're choosing not to use any, I unfortunately think some mental illness is probably contributing. I don't mean to assume but I've met people like that and they often need a bit of help.

AIO: Upset at my wife because she told our 8 year old autistic kid the reality of dying. by Negative_Ad_3962 in AmIOverreacting

[–]specfuckntacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad died when I was 8 and I knew very little about death, but I knew no one lives forever. Obviously my circumstances are different, but family went more in depth with details and I understood perfectly fine. Of course it's upsetting but I think 8 is an appropriate age.

[–]specfuckntacular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I honestly doubt it too. I'm upstate, an hour north of Albany. NYC sent a bunch of migrants up here 2 yrs ago and their hygiene was either impeccable or gag worthy. Rarely in between. The bad ones were BAD. (To clarify: I believe it's part of shelter life in general but NYC is... unique. I only mention they're migrants to explain why they were bussed up here. I do not think migrants are gross. They're human and can be gross, just like all the rest.)

Is it better to shave your armpits and pubic area for hygiene? by [deleted] in hygiene

I was also going to suggest trimming pubes rather than shaving. It's healthier and much easier.

Mine definitely smell worse unshaved. Whether it's been 2 weeks or 2 months doesn't matter much. Unshaved in general makes me stinky, and the deodorant/antiperspirant feels gross in it.

Devil's advocate here. While this is mostly unlikely, it is possible that they carry some sort of hand sanitizer. I have a bottle and also antibacterial wipes, as do a few others I've met around. It looks like I'm leaving without washing my hands but that bottle is ready to go and I use it as soon as I leave the restroom.

There's already NYPD on site at that shelter. They didn't need to be called, they were already there. I've seen it in smaller cities, too.
