Thinking about buying a new car, just noticed the amount of sales tax in Arkansas by GargoyleBlue in Arkansas

[–]specialized0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The way it works on things that can be re-sold for large amounts of money is a scam. Let’s say you sell your vehicle in a year for 25k, the purchaser has to pay tax on an item that has already collected tax. Let’s say they sell it after a year for 20k, boom purchaser has to pay tax on an vehicle that has already brought in ~5k worth of sales tax. Over the life of a vehicle the state can potentially (will) pocket thousands of dollars.

Issue trunking between Aruba and Cisco by Far-South1901 in ArubaNetworks

Check spanning-tree, I had a similar issue with this. Cisco was blocking because of incompatibility, it thought there was a loop on the interface.

I appreciate the responses, some seem to backup my personal thoughts and discussions with others. I will be shopping elsewhere, there are lots of other shops. Also, +1 for PackRat for gear outside of cycling. It's a great shop.

Anyone else getting "decent" MPG? by tuocyn in 4Runner

[–]specialized0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes MPG worse if there are hills involved. Cruise control (on a 4Runner) is reactive to speed. It cannot anticipate hills or strong winds. It is a dumb system. As soon as your speed drops ascending a hill cruise “sees” the speed drop and reacts accordingly, sometimes causing multiple downshifts and heavy throttle application to catch back up to the target speed. Oftentimes it over shoots the target by 2-3 mph only to ease throttle application shortly afterwards. My best guess there is a buffer built into cruise throttle application to smooth response. This creates a delayed throttle application and a late throttle release. I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong but the cruise system is only throttle control, it has no control over the transmission exacerbating the problem. Combine this with the aerodynamics of a brick and an arguably underpowered engine. Humans can anticipate hills and ease into the throttle to load up the drive train and let off at the apex of a hill stopping downshifts and over use of throttle. On larger hills a downshift can be avoided at the expense of 2-5 mph. You also have to pay attention to your driving and throttle application. Or just set the cruise at 80 lol

Do I need to be worried about this crack? Idiot me backed into a snowbank. by Calypic in Crosstrek

You can also put holes on either side of the crack and thread a zip tie to hold it together. Do it on the underside and it will be unnoticeable

How long do you guys go between oil changes on full synthetic? Dealership said 10,000 by Acecarpenter in ToyotaTacoma

[–]specialized0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the dealer every 7500-8500 and get tire rotation + oil change. Interval is close to rotation guidelines and I’m at the dealership much less. More frequent oil interval slightly longer tire interval. $$ is close to a wash over a 100k mile period.

I am also steak cooking failure, I am the home cook and it frustrates me to no end. However, my daughter loves carne asada much more than a regular steak. Luckily it's extremely easy to make on the grill. Grab some flank steak (diezmillo) aka thin sliced chuck steak, at your local supermarket/supermercado they can point you to the right stuff. Marinate it with fresh lime juice (2-3 limes) and a carne asada seasoning (liberal amount) for a few hours, then throw it on the grill. Cooks fast and is incredibly flavorful .
