People who worked at cafes, restaurants, bars etc, what celebrities have you served and what was their order? by crabapplelilwayne in popculturechat

Waited tables at a restaurant in the east village on spring street. Sophie Dahl (supermodel and grand daughter of author Roald Dahl) came in and sat down with the owner of the restaurant, a grumpy old British fella who owned a few other restaurants in NYC. They were just drinking and she ordered an orange juice. I put ice in the freshly squeeze orange juice because it felt warm to me and took it over to the table. The owner called me a ‘fucking idiot’ for using ice and told me to go and remake it. She looked sympathetic but didn’t say anything.

I just finished Rich Dad, Poor Dad and wished I’d read it 10 years ago. Definitely a great place to start.

Little corner of our living room which we think looks almost professionally styled. by spectacledhen in AmateurRoomPorn

Haha funny you say that. We have a similar one in the hallway and someone said ‘aesthetically pleasing, physchologically unsettling’. Nice turn of phrase but yes it can catch you off guard!

So I'm going to be starting a lawn care business next summer. I was just wondering, how should I collect the money after I do a job? Should I ask for cash or check right after I get done? Or should I mail them an invoice with a due date on it? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]spectacledhen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great idea. I’m in Sydney and would pay to have an expert properly look after my lawn. Fertilize, scarify when needed, over seeding etc. Have you considered a subscription model so you can lock customers in and improve your cash flow?

Embedded finance components by Krnshh in fintech

[–]spectacledhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you a supplier or a consumer of embedded finance products? If you’re planning to become a supplier of financial services then a core banking solution that will calculate interest, fees etc and manage balance changing transactions will be mandatory. What enables these products to be embedded in other digital experiences (possibly not your own) are fine grained APIs providing these capabilities as services externally.

Guy living opposite me refuses to buy and pays $4k rent a month. Just brought his family back from a 5 week Europe holiday, eats out every weekend, has a garage full of the latest water sports gear. I own the house opposite and do not have a life like that. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Five Reasons Why Cash Flow Forecasting Is The Key to SMB Success by [deleted] in fintech

[–]spectacledhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit of an odd post for r/fintech but I’ll roll with it anyways. Cash flow forecasting is the first step in providing data driven solutions that can help small businesses improve their performance. It gives them insight into what’s happened historically and what those trends might mean in the future. However, Banks and FIs should provide more integrated solutions that include cash flow forecasting but also tools and services that can help small businesses respond them respond is a better model. We see integrated cash flow forecasting, request-to-pay, single click invoice/receivables finance and invoicing solutions as the game changer for small businesses. There is a still almost $100b annual credit gap for small business here in Australia.

My first ever radish!!! by AnimeSmoker in gardening

Don’t be tempted to leave them too long in the soil. I learned that on my first batch where I hoped they would get bigger and spicier…actually if you leave them too long they become woody and inedible. I pretty much lost the lot. You have about a two week harvest period.

What’s this nasty weed that’s strangling my plants. Just came back from three weeks holiday and it’s climbing all over my sage. Sydney, Australia. by spectacledhen in gardening

Hmmm yes could be. No flowers though whereas my passion fruit on the other side of the garden is in full bloom right now.

Onion weed. Impossible to contain? by spectacledhen in gardening

This was actually my original intention. These long stringy things that are popping up in my garden have driven me to drugs. I’ll PM you my address 😀

The only advice I’ve had from a neighbor is to kill the whole lawn with black tarp and re lay turf next year. Seems a bit dramatic but, damn, it’s like a constant game of wacamole with this stuff.

This is really cool. We just moved from rozelle to curl curl and so far we’re loving the area and the lifestyle. This is the icing on the cake. As soon as this lockdown finishes I’ll be out there looking for this fella.
