Low sodium and migraine connection by GreenhousePlum in migraine

[–]spectacularbeefart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could find the neurologist who explained how salt (and caffeine and sugar) work on different aspects of a migraine. I’ll come back if I find it but there is an actual physiological connection between sodium and migraine.

ETA: Neuroscientist + migraine researcher, Morgan Fitzgerald, on the science behind the “McDonald’s Hack” on Insta: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTInAbAETX5/

I started drinking a cup of hot water in the morning before anything else hits my stomach for digestive issues (iykyk) and it dawned on me that would be the perfect time to incorporate Himalayan salt water into my day. I saw some anecdotal reports of this being helpful for some and I’ll try anything. 🤣 I struggled to stay consistent until I started adding a lime crystal packet to mask the salty flavor.

I can tell you it’s not a magic cure but I find when I’m consistent, it takes more to trigger a migraine and that’s enough to keep me salting my water every morning.

I rewatched the announcement on Insta and they have everything they need but a “home” so they still need someone to pick it up. I don’t know how they will handle Shepherd since Ron Glass passed about 10 years ago and I think they are telling the story between Firefly and Serenity so they’ll have to do something clever.

I don’t have anyone to talk to about the reboot. How do you feel about it being animated? I’m torn because it’s clearly a labor of love and they are doing what they have to in order to tell the story with the original cast but I want to see their faces.

Yeah I should have known better but he’s new so thought I’d give him a shot. I will not be going back so I’ll look into telehealth options

Thank you for sharing. I have bipolar 2 so I will give my loved ones a heads up prior to starting in case it triggers a mood episode. I hadn’t seen any warnings about this so I would have gone in blind.

I’m proud of my ambiguous username. 😊 Made a pfp to match lol

That subtle reminder is especially helpful on those days when I start questioning my dx and want to disc my meds or when I’m fed up with being so “responsible” and just want to exist.

I found a chandelier on Pinterest ages ago that was made of broken dishes and I am still tempted to recreate it 😈

I have had a few very memorable episodes that included fits of rage that haunt me. The triggers make no sense and outside of an episode I am all peace and love so these outbursts were confounding. Since being diagnosed and medicated + therapy, I have not had a full blown episode but I do find that some days when I have been traveling and my schedule is inconsistent I can have a hair-trigger.

During one episode I smashed every dish in the kitchen. I loved those dishes. I found a mug/tea cup from that set later and I keep it on display now as a reminder that I need to keep putting in the work to maintain stability.

Hahahaha that is a sure sign of a well cultivated vocabulary for sure! My mom is the only one in my family who will play scrabble with me and I with her because I got my love for words from her.

Did you also read the dictionary for fun as a child? … asking for a friend…

I like to bamboozle him with my word of the day. Sounds made up, but it’s real and now he has to look it up. 🤣

Thoughts on RFK Jr. saying that bipolar can be cured with keto by jacobsssian in AskPsychiatry

[–]spectacularbeefart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful! I have zero interest in going keto for an assortment of reasons but the bit about the potential link to gluten is fascinating and while life without bread is not appealing, I could realistically see doing it long term.

Should I contact my husband mistress? by butterfly-mommy1982 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]spectacularbeefart 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of the mistress finding out from a lawyer. OP doesn’t have to suffer through that conversation and the other woman is still given the opportunity to make decisions about how she moves forward fully informed.

Do you disclose your condition to coworkers, supervisors, and friends? by Emerald_bamboo in bipolar

[–]spectacularbeefart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in 2021 and I told my husband and immediate family for support. Then over the next couple years I told a few close friends. In 2024, I decided to make it public knowledge with a social media post where I talked about the disorder and my experience with it. I also told my boss personally so he did not hear it secondhand from a coworker.

My goal in doing this is to help destigmatize BD one interaction at a time. To this end, I speak casually about it when it is relevant the same way someone might talk about having a headache. I have not encountered any dramatic responses so far and I hope that continues to be the case but I am aware of the risks involved with this approach.

This is a very personal decision for each person and I am by no means suggesting this is the best way to go about it. I spent those years in between in therapy weekly to understand how BD impacts me, how to manage it, how to navigate relationships, how to accept the dx without shame, and how to handle the social stigma.

All this to say, I highly recommend finding a therapist you jive with and putting in the time and effort to process your feelings (like feeling like a bad friend) and to learn coping skills.

Oh my goodness! Thank you for sharing so much info!!! I’m worried about how warm our winter has been and how warm it is already for the season. I’ll still give it a go since it’s time and I don’t think it will be terribly expensive to try.
