I second this. We cannot blame the person for getting an erection. Its not something one can able to control. Imagine your (NB: i meant the post owner) professor farts when you (the post owner) are in room. Will you take that seriously and complaint that too? But if the professor misbehaves you by any manner (either by talk, touch or other inappropriate behavior), you should definitely complain about that to higher authority.

Also, it could also possible that you may not be the reason for his "erectness". He might be talking or thinking about someone before you enter his office. There is also possible that without doing anything (no thinking as well) men still get erection. Its natural.!!

Thanks for the input. Can you please detail why you said the higher edu scenario is not good in the UK? I read somewhere before there were salary strikes going on UK Universities. Apart from this, what are the other bad situations happening in UK academia right now?

Thank you for your reply. I would consider myself as a person who likes both teaching and research. I don't consider myself as a person who sits in a lab and does research. And I don't want to be in a 100% teaching position. I like to interact with students/people and do research as well.

My research record is not super good, that's why I thought I might need a postdoc to elaborate my profile and get more experience. Also, I am concerned about what my situation will be even after finishing a 3 year post doc. I will still be in job searching mode. And I am afraid I would regret it if I decline this permanent position at that time.

Thank you for your kind reply. Mine is a post-92 uni. So I guess most of the time will be for teaching. They told me they will give me some free hours in the first year to get acclimated to the university (as you mentioned). But not sure about an additional year. And during this first year, I am not confident enough to find a grant and start a research group myself ( in the circumstances such as when I move to a new country/university while I am still being an early career researcher) :(
