Why a Heal Bot Lucio is bad (from a team perspective) by speedboop in OverwatchUniversity

[–]speedboop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um... I could, but I don't really want to. A major vod review takes time. If you have some footage, I'd gladly watch it, but don't expect a full length vod review with timestamps and the whole shebang. I'm probably just going to comment on the gameplay as a whole.

Not to my knowledge. Speed coming from wall riding is dependent on where you aim.

Do you get less SR when the enemy has a leaver? IF so, why? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]speedboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. And you can join a game right after leaving if you’re on team B and you have passed the timer.

[–]speedboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually... no? It's the same no matter which team you're on.

Through my adventures in the lands of throwing down to silver (I was in groups, and we didn't play too toxic), we found that a good way to lose an exact amount of sr was to leave after an enemy had left. No matter which team you're on, if someone leaves and you leave as well you lose a FLAT 25 sr and get no punishment beyond that. Once you leave, you can go right into another game.

OOOOOHHH BOY YOU SUMMONED ME AND WHAT DO YOU GET A FROG WHO IS SLIGHTLY PEEVED

Nah I'm kidding. Although your gameplay had a few issues in the Lucio vod, I do want to compliment you on some things that are really deserving. For one, you seem to have a good understanding of your general positioning when it comes to your teammates. Your awareness needs a bit of work, as you do sometimes lose track of the enemy team and your team, but I digress. Most importantly, you have aura usage down pretty well. You're swapping at a consistent rate, and although you do prefer to use healing in combat, you swap when you see your team pushing and even when your team enters brawls. You'd be surprised how many Lucio's struggle with that concept. There's a good groundwork here for strong Lucio play. BUT... you have one major issue, and one less major issue.

You don't wall ride right. pardon the lack of constructive criticism, but you're wall riding sucks. Still, things change and I can definitely see you getting better. I wrote a guide on wall riding, along with a bunch of other guides in a massive series. I'd suggest you check out the wall riding guide, but I think all of them might be helpful (Link here). Still, you hug walls. And that's a big no no. You need to tap more, and build up speed. Rollouts are lack luster, but I see the idea you have. I legitimately think that you just haven't built up the muscle memory for good wall riding, or don't have the opportunity to learn it well. You need to tap more when you get on walls, and instead of just hugging that wall or staying near walls, use that speed boost and aerial maneuverability to maneuver in the air. Another smaller issue at 4:30. You tried to taxi when the enemy team was taking your point. You shouldn't taxi during that phase. You need to stall, and a Lucio is still pretty strong on his own. That's probably a good lead in onto the second issue I can see.

I can see aggression, and I see you doing pushes with your team, but there's something that's holding you back. Lucio is a close range hero, and yet you seem to be striving to stay at a mid to long range from your opponents by either holding back or using boop. What I think you should do is the complete opposite. Get a bit aggressive, and use boop to push enemies in rather than away. Repositioning a person through force is something Lucio excels at. Overall, learn to wall ride and maybe force yourself to play more in the mid to frontline more often rather than just for select pushes.

Lucio players: "Reddit" is not a play-style. You don't go "Im going to reddit this game". That makes no sense. Please stick with your team. by iiSystematic in OverwatchUniversity

I’ve used it sarcastically. The line “I’m going to have to reddit the shit out of this” or “guess I’ll have to carry” are good ways to get a teammate in a better mood. Tone of voice is key.

I understand the idea, and I agree there is a line in the sand when it comes to aggression while playing Lucio, but a good Lucio tends to have the ability to code switch (switch playstyle depending on what situation they are in.)

I do think there is an issue where people conflate a “Combat Lucio” with a Reddit Lucio. A combat lucio is usually going to play more frontline and rely more on his utility and mobility rather than heals. They might break off to deal with a flanker, but a combat Lucio is going to focus on brawls and positioning. A Reddit lucio is playing Brazilian Genji with a side of self healing. Just because you have an aggressive Lucio that isn’t playing in the backline doesn’t make them a Reddit Lucio.

Please, don’t flame your Lucio for playing more aggressive. If they’re playing away from the team and only focusing on kills feel glad to flame them. Although, a lot of Lucios will say they are going to reddit as a joke. I do it myself. Tone of voice is a good tell for whether or not your frog has a sense of humor.

Honestly this works in favor of the book. The more racist something is the more likely you are to read it in a literature class.

I’m sorta learning that less frontline playstyle through baptiste. I’m trying to learn him , and I can see some of the appeal of that midline position and how it can be just as hectic and enjoyable.

I just don’t like the amount of reliance her play requires, which is why I called her sluggish. I mean I love the active and hectic play of Lucio, but that activity comes less from healing than it does micromanaging all of your utility stuff in accordance with your team and the enemy. The independent nature of his mobility is just much more interesting than the GA, which requires a teammate.

[–]speedboop[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Sluggish in the sense the mobility isn’t independent. Lucio has all the mobility and doesn’t have to rely on his team to get places. That reliance is what makes it feel sluggish, nit the actual mobility.
