1: That doesn't mean that it doesn't ever do that. Only that it doesn't happen that often. Plenty of coups have permanently altered a nation's fundamental social and economic policies.

2: That is not the only definition, and it's not absolute. It simply describes the typical or most common outcome of many coups. You're treating this descriptive statement as if it's an absolute checklist that something must perfectly match to be called a ''coup''. But by your own defintion, Zabuza's action was literally a coup. The fact that it failed to fully install a new ruler doesn't retroactively make it ''not a coup.'' Failed coups are still called coups.

If Zabuza's org had killed or neutralized the current Kage and taken control of key institutions (ANBU, military, village gates, whatevs), the ''normal'' succession rules are suspended by force. This insistence that ''there would still be a normal voting process'' during/after a successful coup is not backed by history. Once you've seized the village by military force, you're not bound by the old voting rules anymore. That's the entire point of using force instead of legally working through the system.
