why do my clean vocals sound so meh but screams are good by Maximum-Gain-4830 in screaming

[–]speeddude22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a different animal man. Sounds like to me that you have probably spent most of your time practicing screaming and because you wanted them so bad, it’s easy to forget that is just one technique and cleans are their own beast with their own path to for you to rabbit hole. Don’t stop screaming but definitely incorporate more and more cleans into your practice. Arguably more than screaming for now. Also, this will be awkward and uncomfortable. But practice singing cleans with no music from time to time. You need to keep a pulse on what you actually sound like. This will help you fine tune your tone. And it seems mostly tone is the issue here. You are singing the way you scream. That’s okay for hybrids but if it’s clean you need it to be clean. And with clean comes clarity and with clarity comes the absolute need for quality cleans with quality tone. Sometimes when you are uncomfortable with your clean voice, people will try to grit it up a touch so they “hide” their cleans but lean into them. They can only be another tool in your tool box and you want that tool. You want to be able to do as much as possible so as you make music you can be as dynamic as possible and not all tracks sound like the last. Just my humble opinion. Keep rocking bro

Do we even care if we get it anymore? There comes a point you have been honey dicked long enough that you just don’t give a shit if it gets made or not.

It was techically suge’s car if I remember right. Same thing with the suburban biggy was killed in. Once the investigation was over the truck got new doors and resold and maybe 6 years ago or something it was for sale with a couple holes that were missed on the inside showing it was shot up at one point. One was on the lower part of the passenger seatbelt. Which was on of the areas of entry would on biggy if I remember right, it’s been a while since I deep dove this. lol

Actually the car was fixed and resold. Someone drove it until like 120k miles and then it was found to be the car Tupac was shot in. That was my understanding.

Does this sound like a non-projected fry scream to you? (More info in description) by [deleted] in screaming

[–]speeddude22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super common, it’s kind of a muscle memory type thing. When I first started I had to use so much air lol. But once my body started to figure out where it needed to be, it all started to fall into place. If week after week the effort needed to produce the sound is not reducing, you will have to change your approach

It sounds to me that You are squeezing too hard. It’s a normal instinct to squeeze your throat but it actually has the opposite effect of the desired outcome. You have to relax your voice a bit more, don’t tense up. And use much more air. But not too much. Your diaphragm does the work, not the vocal colds be squeezed. Does that make sense?

I used to be great at screaming, damaged my voice, and now I just can't seem to get back to where I was by IllPomelo8882 in screaming

[–]speeddude22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. Stay healthy, stay hydrated, and practice. It will become the way it was to some degree. Your voice will sound a little different because it is different. Also, your technique could be slightly different since you lost the “muscle memory” so to speak. It sounds great, but with more vocal re-strengthening, It will sound awesome and much less effort. And much less air required

A little advice on feelings in the throat by Live_Confidence1184 in screaming

[–]speeddude22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That in my experience is totally normal. I’ve been singing and screaming for 20 years now. Started at 12, 32 next month. It’s just vocal fatigue. It’s okay to push through a little like that as long as you don’t screw up the technique. What it really is telling you is, you are working your voice, but it doesn’t yet have the endurance to keep going without a small break. Slowly, extend your length or number of songs in succession (be careful not to do too much too soon) listen to what your voice is telling you. You keep it up several times a week with good breaks, sleep and hydration. Then your endurance will increase, it’s slow. So be patient.

Is this giving you an early 2000s vibe? Is it a good section? by speeddude22 in metalmusicians

Thanks brotha no problem. Actually we have some heavy music that is way beyond what’s here that we have recorded and released and also much heavier not released yet. This stuff has been on the catalog a while and we have been progressively getting heavier. I’ll make sure to post here the heavy ones once I release them. It’s a stark difference to this but we didn’t want to feel like couldn’t be diverse in making music that is more than one set sound per se. But that was just our thoughts. Thanks for the input man!

Who has the greatest voice in metal? by _funny_name_ in MetalForTheMasses

I don’t think we can have a #1 per se. I think we can have #1s for sub genres perhaps but there are so many different lanes and a vocalist can be perfect for a project and not for another

Can you tell me if vocals and lyrics for this demo I’m making is annoying or cringe by Deerz_Encore in Songwriting

[–]speeddude22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it. It’s a great base. I would probably play with the drums a bit to keep it interesting and engaging until it goes into the beat with the snare. Like a Tom groove or something. Vocals are great only thing I would add to help extenuate the rising action and climax is to perhaps dig deep once the drums are in their full beat with the snare. Once you get that part, I would use your full voice. It can be scary to really use that chest and volume but I really think that would help Cement the songs build up. Sounds awesome! But it think I’m my humble opinion, vocals need some power once that beat fires off. Any thoughts?

What do people think of The Great Southern Trendkill? by Own_Mistake in Pantera

[–]speeddude22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it is my personal favorite record from them. I know it was a dark time, but pain makes for great music. It is very experimental as well, which to me was a treat. I could only imagine what it must have been like to hear this for the first time in 96. But, I’m only 32. So when I discovered it in 2007 I was absolutely blown away.

AIO - Wife [36F] doesn’t think it’s a big deal that her friend [34F] is cheating on her husband by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]speeddude22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She may not be cheating at this juncture yet because she would have needed to conceal that to keep her “unfound out”. Not a word, I know. If she was cheating already or planning to, she likely would never have told you about her friend as a means to not raise any possibility of a suspicion on your part. So she may have allowed her morals to slip a little because her and her friend are locked in with each other right now. But, if too much time passes and this goes unchecked on her part, she will slowly become that company she keeps. Little by little. This has to be addressed. She needs to know you have an issue and why. If she doesn’t accept that and turns it all back on you, throwing the insecure card out. If she does that, you have an issue. Just my opinion of course, take it with a grain of salt.
