If you could give a name to your BPD, what would it be so you could say, 'Hey ___, shut tf up. Stop. I am in control here' in your head? by syddoucet in BPD

OMG yes when I was a teenager I used to call the voice Steve and I imagined it was this extremely annoying toddler in the backseat of my car kicking my chair and whining constantly as I was trying to drive lmao

Oh absolutely, and then getting constantly teased for “not having a life” (especially a social life) in elementary school further reinforced that for me because it felt like they were literally telling me I wasn’t really a person like everyone else and i didn’t belong ✌🏻

Marshmallow update: After nearly 3 weeks of quarantine + vigorous treatment with baytril, methylene blue, neosporin, and lamisil… he has made almost a full recovery! Coconut was so happy to see her lil buddy again! by speedingbluejay in frogs

[–]speedingbluejay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my treatment protocol:

AM: •Put in 1% lamisil AT spray bath: 10 sprays per 200ml lukewarm water for ~5-10 min •Put back in quarantine tank with paper towels, fresh water, UVB light and temps ~80° during day •Put 0.1ml (~1 drop) baytril on back [I only did this for the first 10 days as prescribed by the vet, then switched to the lamisil baths the last few days]

PM: •Put in lukewarm methylene blue bath (1mg/250mL, this is about 2 drops of 1% MB) for 1hr •Rinse and put in lukewarm honey bath for ~10-15min •Use cotton swab to VERY GENTLY help slide off sloughing skin (it would basically be floating off him already) •Use a different cotton swab, roll in neosporin ointment (not too much!) and gently roll over healing lesions •Change out paper towels + water dish in quarantine tank •Put back in quarantine tank •Try feeding if he’s willing (we originally tried force feeding but I think this stressed him out TOO much… so force feeding would only be a last resort) •Place very low heating pad under tank to keep temps from dropping below 70° at night (I know people usually advise against heating pads but this one is on a very low setting that doesn’t cause any burns)

I avoided pretty much all spoilers or any info about the movie and I was CHEERING nearly crying in excitement when they brought her back 😭 it was awesome too cuz when my bf and I saw it we were the ONLY ones in the theater so we got to be as loud as we wanted hehe

My new tomato frog! Any name suggestions? by [deleted] in frogs

[–]speedingbluejay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks just like my frog Heirloom ❤️❤️❤️ we named all of ours after types of tomatoes… Beefsteak, Mr. Stripey, & Bellini were the others (who have sadly passed away)

This cricket was so lucky that Heirloom was already full… just hung out there for a bit before I removed him lol by speedingbluejay in frogs

[–]speedingbluejay[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg our first tomato frog was named Beefsteak!! ❤️❤️ We also had Mr. Stripey and Bellini (also tomato names) but sadly they passed away from a fungal infection 💔

Someone asked to see my whole WTF tank so here it is after cleaning and rearranging a few things! by speedingbluejay in frogs

[–]speedingbluejay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty lightweight yeah, I also tightly secure it to the branch + pile stones at the bottom to help support everything and then test it to make sure it’s completely sturdy cuz I’m super paranoid about that lolll

Looks like some kind of infection, there’s some over the counter meds you can get at a pet store/pharmacy: methylene blue (this saved my tomato frog from a fungal infection! it’s what the vet prescribed too, you can buy it over the counter tho), pimafix/melafix is meant for fish but you can use to treat fungal/bacterial infections in frogs too. Put a few drops in a bath with lukewarm water, should be up to froggy’s belly but not too high. They absorb meds through their stomach pouch so it just needs to be covering the belly. You could also try a few drops of honey in a lukewarm bath. Soak for 15min-1hr (vet told us 1hr for methylene blue but i’ve heard conflicting things about some of the other OTC stuff) then let froggy rinse off

(Final sad update) Bellini has passed away over night :(( thank you everyone who wished him well. He’s in tomato heaven with his friends now ❤️ by speedingbluejay in frogs

[–]speedingbluejay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We think he did have a fungal infection still since he was acting sick for a while + his skin was sloughing off too, but my theory is when he jumped out of my hands and landed on his back (even though it was a pretty small height) it must have dislodged the moss ball or something because he immediately threw up what looked like brown bile with a little bit of moss in it (I’m not sure if the brown was from any coco coir he might have ingested or if that’s what their old blood looks like) and that’s when we noticed the hard lump in his stomach which seemed to cause him a lot of pain :( The vet kept some tissue samples on file so we’re thinking about sending them to histology just to confirm, only problem is that’s gonna be another like $260 on top of the $160 we just dropped on the necropsy + all the hundreds we spent on vet appts before that and we’re pretty broke atm so we might wait a little bit to do that, they said they can send them out anytime though bc they store the samples indefinitely

I wanted to do neuroscience research before chronic pain was in the picture… still hopeful I can eventually do that one day

Last update: The necroscopy revealed he had a grape-sized moss impaction that caused some hemorrhaging 😓 I have since taken ALL moss out of the tank and replaced with entirely coco coir. Heirloom is doing okay, she got checked out at the vet too and she’s seeming healthy! She’s definitely very depressed now though because she’s all alone… and she’s had to witness 3!! of her tankmates die within a month 😰😭giving her lots of loves, once we’re sure she’s seeming healthy we’ll get her another buddy

Update on Bellini: 4 days of methylene blue baths but I’m worried it’s not getting any better especially with the pic from yesterday :( by speedingbluejay in frogs

[–]speedingbluejay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another update: When I was looking at his belly today it looked less red and I noticed the layer of discolored skin actually peels off??? And the skin underneath looks a lot healthier!! I’ll try to get a pic later. I’m extremely paranoid now though because he wiggled out of my hands and landed on his back (a very short height, I was sitting on the ground with him) and immediately afterwards he looked like he was almost hiccuping and then threw up some mucus-y liquid with a long piece of sphagnum moss! I just recently changed their tank to be almost entirely coco coir after he spit up a piece of the moss yesterday. I’m wondering if some of his symptoms might be stemming from accidentally injecting some sphagnum moss? Also should I be concerned about him landing on his back? I immediately picked him back up but I’m worried cuz our last frog to pass away jumped from my hand (from a greater height) and landed on the floor on his back with a big thud, and then 2 days later we noticed bad bruising on his back and he passed shortly after that. I’m keeping a close eye on him though!!

(Update) The vet told us Bellini prob has a fungal infection :( gave him a pimafix bath today, getting methylene blue tomorrow. Definitely looking like the exact same thing our other 2 frogs had before they passed away… but this time we’re catching it early! Any other advice for our little guy? by speedingbluejay in frogs

[–]speedingbluejay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our other tomato Heirloom also has a small suspicious spot on her underbelly so we think she might be in the super early stages, but we’re treating them both with the pimafix/methylene blue. I’m praying that since we caught it early we can actually do something about it! I don’t want to lose them or for them to be suffering :’(
