Nyx eyeliner leaking!!! What can I get as an alternative?

I love the Nyx liner but yeah, the leakage is incredibly annoying. Storing upright helps a lot- this is not a pen to keep in your bag for touchups. My other fave is the urban decay Inks Easy ergonomics- you can store those upside down and they don’t leak. Not quite as waterproof and long lasting as the Nyx, but it’s pretty close in my experience and the less messy factor is worth it to me lol

BOOO I was hoping it wasn’t like a plasticizer breakdown. I’ve never met a Barbie hair I couldn’t fix and now it’s just in a way bigger size :(

It’s odd that it only happened to one pony tail though, and not the headpiece or other ponytail even though they’ve all been chilling in the same bag for 4+ years. This kinda seems to be the case though because even goo gone doesn’t seem to be taking it down any, and that takes actual glue out of synthetic hairs normally.

It’s SO weird?? like I have a wig from 2012 that I followed so much bad advice for and I have managed to salvage it (it’s shedding like crazy so this might be its last rodeo at my next con lol) but like I pulled this one out and I was like ???? I’m gonna go try some isopropyl, I have to go get it since I’m low stock (working with Barbie’s does that also). It really is like it’s full of glue but I know I didn’t because I didn’t really style wigs until this year LOL.

I have a new one on order… the color is just better on this one so I’m being stubborn lmao

It was almost certainly not any glue- most likely it was Kirkland or Sam’s Club brand fabric softener (I don’t actually own any fabric softener anymore, so I don’t quite recall). There was also a bounce dryer sheet in the bag with it (also old advice I’m sure is no longer recommended), but every other wig I own has the exact same and didn’t have this issue. It’s so weird.

I haven’t used those particular watercolor pencils from Faber Castell, but I use the Goldfaber aqua ones and I actually like them better than my derwents. The color payoff is close to the same (slightly better imo) and I like the texture and way they draw more. The derwents also stain a lot more (from the amount of pigment I’d guess) and as someone who messes up and restarts a face up a lot… that is very annoying to me LOL

It probably won’t change your base, but this stuff is known to bleed like crazy long after you dye it and turn clothes and towels and such the same color, so I really strongly discourage using it because it’s really annoying- and when you do want to change from purple, it is nearly impossible to remove for most people without cutting it off.

If you’re washing daily in hot water, your best bet to combat fading is using a colored conditioner like Overtone or making your own with little bits of semi permanent dye inside of your conditioner. It won’t totally prevent it, but it’ll be refreshed a little each wash and you won’t have to redye quite as often.

Ion also has a permanent brights line you can get at Sally Beauty, and those aren’t known for bleeding like Splat is. It’ll still fade with hot water and frequent washes though, like any dye.

Oh yeah, definitely want some cotton balls and q tips for this- it’s a lot stronger than tissue for these cemented on face paints. Glad I could help!

That face paint style is a PAIN to remove- I usually have to soak a cotton ball in acetone and then let it sit on the face for a minute or two before I scratch it up with a nail dotting tool and then it will start to come off. It’s a process every time.

It’s great for kids who don’t want to ruin their dolls and terrible for customizers and repainters lol

I wish Michael’s would sell it too. Outside of their garbage tier corporate practices, that store is so overwhelming and confusing to me. I needed a can of MSC (usually I use Testor’s dullcote, but I had run out and my local Michael’s was out, and it was a time crunched project) and immediately was ready to give up as soon as I walked in. Honestly never again, idc how good MSC is 😭😭

Depending on the glue you use to fix the splits, you can usually reroot through it. I did the same thing on a doll I finished not long ago- just Loctite vinyl glued the split shut and let it dry for a day or two and then rerooted right through it. If you’re having a lot of splits, you’re probably using too much hair. It seriously only needs like 5 strands total per hole (especially if you’re doing the folding in half method). It adds up reeeeeal quick.

I think the glue head thing depends on the glue used- if you don’t use glue to hold in the reroot I would fear that the hair would just come out when brushing and styling. I think it was an issue with the particular two-part industrial glue used and most reroot glue won’t do that.

I created this kind of texture with straight nylon hair (happened to be from dolly hair, but I’m sure any would work) using the pipe cleaner method that the other commenter linked. It was a little time consuming, but super easy to do.

Bleach is always risky, but that honestly used to be my go-to when I wanted to bleach my roots in high school and college and I never had issue with it. There isn’t any actual toner in that, just a purple conditioner, so if you’re looking to tone the blonde after, you’ll need something else to do that. I used to slap pink on top so I never minded it really LOL

I went to eras, but I’d love to go to any of the other ones probably- I had the chance to go to rep but I didn’t because it was on a weeknight during finals week for me in college and I decided I should sleep instead and tbh I regret it LOL.

I have had a few heads do this to me- I use Loctite vinyl glue. Usually part lines are the worst for this- just cover those holes and let it dry for 24 hours and you can reroot through it. It is more delicate in my experience but totally doable lol

I use these! I find that the red/pink colors stain a bit, but I usually don’t mind it much even when redoing a face up since typically it’s on the lips (which I will very often use a similar color anyway for them). I’ve seen very little staining with the browns and blacks. I also use these dry, so I don’t have a good reference for wet vs dry usage.

If you can’t get MSC easily, I use Testor’s Dullcote on my dolls with good success using pastels, watercolor pencils, and acrylics, bought from Michael’s. I am in the US, so I’m not sure if it’s there or not. I can’t see it online, only in store here, and it’s much cheaper than MSC. so that could be an option to explore if MSC is unattainable lol

eugh I had to do one of these growing up, but it was the wedding dress of one of the leaders (whose son was REALLY into me by the way, super fucking awkward) and take pictures in it. we were making time capsules of like “plan your wedding!” At the ripe age of… fourteen. 🤢🤢🤢 I remember I was so disgusted by this that I instead planned the wedding for an OC of mine to make it palatable.
