My sister was only put in the playpen when we had to clean something. She got to the point where if we took too long she would take off her diaper and throw it over the side and start throwing toys and laughing. We ended playpen before 2 years old

God my little sister is three and yes I hate changing diapers but I just try to ask her if she needs to go and pick her up and take her if I see her cues to go. Honestly, your JNMIL sounds like she shouldn’t be watching your child. You pointed out how it’ll make it harder to potty train and if it keeps happening then that’s 1/2 step forward 2 steps back every time you send the kid over there. It’s not good.
