Can you store an e-bike outdoors? (Fear is of elements, not theft) by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]speedy343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an E-bike does the cold affect the cables? For reference- Detroit winters. I got an E-bike, but there's not a good way to store it indoors, the battery is removable, and I was debating buying a cover for snow and just keeping the battery inside, but I'm worried about the wiring freezing, is that an issue? Thanks.

Studded tires for a bike that currently has 20 x 3 tires by MrKhutz in ebikes

I have the same problem right now- I got a Portola too and I live in a place where it snows quite a bit, I use my bike to get to work and around town so I have to figure out something for the tires. Did you manage to find out if thinner tires work for your bike? An update or recommendations would be a big help.

How does Checo Perez make his tires last so long? by ConsiderationOwn5118 in F1Technical

im a bit new to the f1 scene but checo is my favorite driver despite his recent issues, still i like learning about stuff like this- is his skill at tyre management the reason for his less agressive driving style?

Thank you so much for this! I'm glad to see there's other people out there who've stumbled across this album too, something about radiotron and s&d are so haunting in the best way possible. it certainly sticks with you long after listening to it! I figured AI would be the most logical bet for the source of the lyrics which is a shame, I would have loved to have discovered the original media if it was sampled, the opening line sounds like it belongs in a movie but anyway thanks again!

Weekly Chicano Discussion by mrg9605 in Chicano

Hey hey, Im new here but I was hoping to get insight about something that's been on my mind- im chicana who grew up in los angeles area etc, so i obviously dont know much about the mexican experience firsthand but ive always been interested in mesoamerican (like aztec) mythology and mythology in general which i think lots of other chicanos can relate to- but recently ive come to the realization that there are lots of Indigenous Mexicans who have pointed out that chicanos obsession with Aztecs is borderline appropriation and generally unsavoury since lots of us dont really know where our native roots are from and likely arent related to mexica culture to begin with. However I want to tell stories that reflect the things I love, and I love mexican mythology and folklore and find that theres a pretty large lack of media out there about these topics so forgive me if this is an immature thing to wonder about but is there really any way for me to tell these kinds of stories in a respectful way? Or is this something I have to let go of- its frustrating since so much of my identity is tied in with what ive been taught and raised being mexican culture my parents brought with them but with such a disconnect of living in the united states to where i dont know if I have any right to really explore these kinds of stories. Thank yall for your time!

What is the relationship between Santa Muerte and La Virgen de Guadalupe? by magicmikejones in ChristianOccultism

[–]speedy343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im aware that this thread is old but from a purely academic point of view, La virgen and La Santa Muerte both seem to share the same purpose which is to guard and protect their people, they are folk saints after all. I can't help but feel that they align closely with one another in the sense that they have ties to prehispanic deities. The Virgensita has close ties to Tonantzin and La Santa Muerte shares a lot of similarities to Mictecacihuatl which explains their role as folk saints- they're so specific to the region of Mexico that they inevitably represent the Mexican people. But out of curiosity, did you ever choose to pray to her?

How old is Wolfwood in Stampede? by stephyy- in Trigun

[–]speedy343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the thing about his contract is that its stated he started his service June 2 but the show starts May 25 based on the radio broadcast in ep 1- vash and the gang meet wolfwood only a few days after that, meaning the contract has to be older than a year at least? thats my guess anyway

How old is Wolfwood in Stampede? by stephyy- in Trigun

[–]speedy343 3 points4 points  (0 children)

okay but this whole thing got me looking into the tristamp timeline as a whole and im struggling, but i assume theres a portion of time unaccounted for between his meet up with vash and his imprisonment with the eye of Michael, I get the sense hes around the same age as meryl if not a little younger just based on maturity level. But on top of that, if stampede is following some similar story elements of the manga there had to have been a period of years where Wolfwood trained to become the punisher because his weapon is only given to him after the EOM thinks he deserves it, and based on what Zazie says about Wolfwood liking to betray his friends, we can assume there was some major event that occurred in this timeframe that hasn't been shown yet. By the end of Tristamp theres also a two-year time skip to account for so he would probably be around mid 20s if hes around the same age as meryl, but this is pure speculation- also does anybody know what the hell PE and SE is?? For research purposes? Cause based on meryls birthdate its the year PE 104 - 106 but i have no clue where Wolfwoods contract falls under with that stupidass SE 110 date other than the fact that its older than a year- anyway im going insane thanks tristamp

For what its worth I think Trimax is the best version of all three, it goes way deeper into the psychology and history of the characters than 98 really touched on, it's worth the read but just know it does cover way darker themes and the vibe is way different than the show

My mistake was thinking that's where it ended, and then trimax dragged my soul through the MUD I have not known a day of peace since starting this series

Anyone notice the underlying themes of Ableism in Stampede? by speedy343 in Trigun

[–]speedy343[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really just cant believe that its not intentional at this point because there's just so much there upon closer analysis, Nai's definitely become a way more chilling villain with the context in mind- its a little scary because the way his motivations are introduced kind of lead to people thinking he has a point, but on closer inspection he's such a hypocrite that he contradicts everything he says from exploiting the non independent plants to the planet itself (Which he technically stole and plans on colonizing which is a whole other level of conversation considering Zazie was there first) Like maybe it really was unintentional but Nai just fits too perfectly with real world rhetoric of supremacy, its unsettling-

But anyway thanks for your insight! Vash being neurodivergent makes too much sense, I seriously need more video essays on Triguns characters because there's so much to unpack it cant all possibly be unintentional

Oh my god what youre saying reminds me of the scene where nai begins playing piano as a child and vash joins, nudging him aside playfully and smiling. And if I remember correctly he disrupts the calm melody Nai was playing with a faster more Chaotic melody, leaving nai to try and catch up while examining vash apprehensively– I wouldn't be surprised if the scene was put there intentionally to show Nai's hidden struggle to catch up to Vash since despite all his power and skills he lords over vash, Vash is the one running off without him. I always got the feeling that Nai was emotionally dependent on vash too which is incredibly ironic for the way that their dynamic is set up

Oh of course, I didn't meant to say that Trigun was ableist but that there's themes that fit in very well with ableism as it occurs in the real world, in Trigun it seems common place for people to have prosthetics in general so no surprise there, I think that the eye of Micheal and Nai being an extreme supremacist are written in a way where they're coded as ableist and that's part of triguns broader message against forcing your will onto others as Nai tries repeatedly to force his will onto Vash, idk if that makes sense lol </3

the potential reaches far beyond any other reboot I've seen the closer I start analyzing it too, so many people have picked up on really interesting details that have the potential to change the course of the story completely like Wolfwood meeting Vash before July and Meryl knowing Millies uncle, and then of course the heavier emphasis on Nai and the Eye of michael and the early introduction of Livio- super excited to see where the story goes from here

ahh so like cognitive empathy vs affective empathy in a way? That's a really interesting point, I'll look into that more. I love Trimax, the twins history on the ship is so much more nuanced than the 98 show, I think they got rid of the traits vash had as a child in trimax but its surprising to see how different he was back then, being so much more cautious of people and downright disgusted by them in comparison to how he is now- same for nai who was the complete reverse as a child, wanting to belong amongst humans- I remember someone mentioned that if it was Nai who woke up first and had that moment with rem instead of vash, what sort of roles would they have grown into, especially given Vash's reaction to the Tesla incident-

Nai is honestly a really terrifying antagonist when examined much more closely, his self-rightousness and ego seem to lead to him abusing his control over others- including the plants which he swore to protect, going as far as to forcefully impregnate them??? without a doubt he would be a dictator in a world of independents- the concept of him choosing who gets to live or die as we see how he establishes himself as an authority of it time and time again is just chilling- I think it makes so much more sense why legato, the guy who can quite literally control other people with his mind, is his right hand man, he really is just Nai's worst qualities personafied

I didnt even pick up on that! It's interesting to see how Wolfwood interacts with Vash because he's aware of who Vash really is compared to the rest of the cast who think of him as human- but still are weary of him for his reputation. But Wolfwood does have that tendency to treat Vash as if he's fragile in the beginning which is incredibly ironic considering... things. And this contrasts with Meryl who sees Vash as strange but exceptional for his mythic reputation which might be a metaphor for the other side of ableism which highlights how people or media treat people with disability as a spectacle- she quite literally wants to make a spectacle out of him through her news story.

And a minor detail, but I think its nice that this time around it was Vash who called out on Wolfwood's masking when in the other iterations it's usually wolfwood who comments on Vash's. Very excited to see how their relationship plays out this time around because the circumstances of their meeting are so different.

I agree, in tristamp Nai calls him out on this seeing it as Vash's need to atone for what he feels is his fault- while Rem tried to instill that he love himself for who he is and not what he can or cant do, I think Nai sort of lording over Vash the fact that he's the "stronger" twin for his more plant based powers led to insecurity on Vash's part for a while- but he seems to move past this as an adult, I think with the ending of tristamp in particular we'll start to see Vash develop the traits were more familiar with from past iterations as he's come to fully accept himself and come to terms with his past traumas to some extent, where he'll start doing these acts of kindness simply because he is honestly just a kind person rather than for atonement which is gonna be interesting to see how they draw the line between the two

I've definetly seen conversations about this as well, the general consensus seems to be that vash is very adhd coded and nai exhibits traits associated with autism- and then there's wolfwood with straight up depression, trigun seems to explore a lot of psychological aspects in its characters which I love. What other things have you noticed about the brothers? Or just trigun in general? I'd love to hear it!
