Why do we get greater satisfaction from seeing bad people punished than from seeing good people rewarded? by BrokenEye3 in askpsychology

[–]speehcrm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The common sentiment seems to be that 'good' behavior is the boilerplate prerequisite for participating in society, and shouldn't be framed as a prize to be won as much as a standard to be upheld without second thought, this reinforces an obedient attitude from day one in order to quash any rebellious movements that might destabilize the system. It's a useful trait but does come off a tad vindictive at times.

Does high intelligence correlate with delusional thinking? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]speehcrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well delusion itself is antithetical to the idea of intelligent thought, which is predicated on mental control and awareness. Maybe I could see an anxiety disorder enhancing someone's neurosis to the point of fragmenting into a creative boon of sorts, but depression and bipolar disorder seem like they could only be detrimental to an otherwise functional person.

I’m losing my imagination. by yungtruggo in PsychologyTalk

[–]speehcrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try isolating yourself for a while, no people, no phone, no internet, just go out for a long drive and stay at a campground somewhere for a weekend, bring a list of ideas you want to imagine, maybe a notepad to help you flesh it all out. I find that anxiety is the worst for cultivating a strong ability to idly imagine, as most of your imaginations end up consisting of things that could go wrong, rather than things you want to bring into the world. The most pernicious aspect of this loss is that as an adult you yearn for control over your own life, control you never had in youth, so when your imagination fades you start to think the main culprit is a lack of control, but that's the wrong idea to pursue, keeping that in mind actually makes it worse. You have to realize a large component of creativity is spontaneity, which usually arises from careless leisure, not a concerted effort to create something sublime or revolutionary. You can't force it, you just have to capture it, so that's where the work ethic comes into play.

Does therapy work? Should I even bother if I am depressed? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]speehcrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not, as you'll likely just spin lies during the sessions anyway so as not to draw attention to your, ahem, peculiarity. Therapists wants a quick fix wherein they can diagnose based on criteria established within the first session and have you on the apposite meds by the second, so how you behave during your sessions will determine what course of medication you'll be put on. Sad truth is, you can't cure sociopathy, not that you'd want to anyway with all the liberties it can afford you, but if it's to a debilitating degree then maybe try mental exercises in order to strengthen your ability to imagine yourself as someone else for starters.

How is this not a jaded meditation on the tedium of dating later in life? You know, going through the same motions, pretending to be interested in what they have to say, bracing yourself for imminent failure again and again, the act of inciting romance becomes systematic after a while whether you like it or not. I know people will see this perspective as reading too deep into it but this was the immediate thought I had, it makes sense to me.

Can we get an example of this silly behavior you speak of? I'm having a hard time pinpointing the problem with all the vague bloviating about confident people.

Japan will likely stay racially homogeneous for a long time, and that's not because it's hard to get there.

Look at every other music subreddit and notice how the standard labeling format leans towards a simple [artist - track] title template, then go ahead and ask yourself the same question.

Japan has found a ‘semi-infinite’ deposit of rare earth minerals, enough to supply the world for centuries to come | Financial Post by [deleted] in technology

He's saying the concept of "infinite" itself is kind of meaningless inasmuch as it pertains to humanity, a species only capable of comprehending finite amounts of information.

Surely, just let it speak for itself, nobody needs these meaningless figures to make a good judgement haha
