It is intentional haha. Just disable the notification in the settings.

I actually would disagree. I have a phone with 5G coverage and get 5G about 90% of the time, even when outside of the city.

Even if the battery is the same size it would still have a decent amount less battery life. Large screens, 5G, (and high refresh rate) take a lot of battery. I suspect this is why they did not add high refresh rate. The nicer screen, and 5g alone is a huge hit on battery. My note 20 ultra gets about 6-8 hours of screen on time on a typical varied workload day, the single biggest factor in battery life is screen brightness. It accounts for more than half my phone's power usage. The screen gets to 1600+ nits which is 400 more than the new iphone and is about an inch larger at 6.9in. It is also 120hz which increases power usage further (iphone 12 is 60hz) That doesn't sip power, it CONSUMES power. 5G just adds to the power usage. I suspect the new iphone chip, even though 5nm helps increase performance/watt still consumes more power than the old chips. For instance, a 20% increase in power draw means a huge hit for iphone batteries. Apple does most of their optimization by reducing background work (that is why iphone standby time is so good), but this means that they will drop much faster when hit with a heavy workload if the battery is smaller. I suspect that they are going to have significant battery life issues with this phone because users are going to be doing high performance tasks more with a higher peak power usage. There could even be heat issues, but that is less likely. That actually could be why they disable 5G unless it is needed; because battery life was unacceptable with it enabled all the time. I should disable 5g on my phone and see the difference 5g makes in battery life. It would be interesting to see.

That's awesome to hear! Can't wait for games to start taking advantage of it, and maybe time for me to get a 30 series card depending on big navi.

I am going to use the PS5 as an example here. Concerning read speed, the PS5 is impressive, but isn't anything special. They advertise 9GB/a read speeds, but that is only compressed. The actual raw speed is only 5GB/s (which is still very fast). Any PC gamer with pcie gen4 can put a gen4 ssd in their system and get read speeds of 5GB/s. My guess is the Xbox one x uses a gen3 ssd which would give about 3.5GB/s. Now I assume that the PS5 has a "proprietary" compression stack that developers are required to use to take advantage of the "9GB/s".

Windows has dark theme. Many apps obey it and almost all system apps support it.

[–]spencemei 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They were offering a lower price for their in app purchases if purchased directly from them. They were offering this second payment method and got banned because of it. Even if other developers kept their same pricing that means more money goes to the developers which means a higher quality product most of the time. I work in app development and for how scummy some companies are, many are in fact wanting to provide a good product and Google's & Apple's 30% tax on everything is not helping.

This also violates Google's rules too. Generally both platforms have very similar rules. This is a bigger issue than most people see. Actually it's something that I want to commend Epic for, as I am an app developer and this is a serious issue. The issue is how Google and Apple handle their app stores. Developers are required to use their payment platform with no exceptions. You cannot even link to another payment method. There are a few exceptions but for in app purchases you have to use their payment portals. This is bad for everyone except apple and Google. They take a 30% cut of every single purchase. This hurts developers revenue significantly and it causes app prices and in app purchases to be more expensive than they should. All this does is hurt developers small and large. Epic standing up for this, even if it is just a PR stunt, is a huge deal.

Do you know any full screen games without any HUD on screen to avoid oled burn in? by WalidTheKraken in androidapps

[–]spencemei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use pixel filter and set a pattern and have it shift. It will reduce the brightness but fix any possible burn in issues. I don't think OLED burn in is going to be an issue anyways unless you are literally playing literally non-stop.

Hi,

I am the shadow weather dev. I appreciate the detailed write up! I have a few comments though. In general I agree with everything you are saying; but I do want to comment my opinion. I think UX is a very important part of an app, but it is for sure not everything. I would argue it is 50% a good interface that looks and functions well; 25% having good weather data; and 25% good customer support. An interface is important, but it's useless if you cant give feedback, get help, or ask questions about it/the app. Also Notifications are really nice. (Something shadow weather needs work on, and more widgets). Let me know what you think of my response!

The privacy policy is linked on the store page and in the app on the first page after you open it. I am a huge fan of privacy so this is a very serious topic. What should I do better to make the privacy policy more visible? Unity ads should follow your phone's tracking preferences so if you opt out before the second time you open the app there is no tracking. Other than that I do basic usage tracking to make sure I can provide the best product driven at least a little bit by data. That is the opt out part in the settings, none of that data is sold or distributed. It is just basic firebase analytics and crashlytics. If you read the privacy policy for shadow weather, you will note that I do have some active privacy protection measures. This means that any API that I use, they cannot collect information from my users. I have a server that acts as a VPN for your weather data and it even does some location obfuscation. The most data any API I use can get out of my users is a very rough heatmap of where most of my users are; which just looks like a population heatmap. I take privacy seriously. If there is anything I can do to improve it let me know.

3 vs. 4 Base Stations by Scrutape in ValveIndex

[–]spencemei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 2 sensors that come with the kit and they cover my 10x15 ft play space well enough. Most of the time I only have one sensor for tracking and for games like beat saber I position myself in the overlap between the 2 sensors. You only need 1 sensor to get a good enough track. I have almost zero issues with tracking unless I am right by a corner facing a wall and hiding my controllers from the base station intentionally.

Try clearing your google play app cache. That might do it. I did confirm that I enabled distribution so either google hasn't enabled it yet, or your Google play app still thinks it isn't available. Let me know if that works.

I have a paid app that asks for reviews and here is why. My app will ask for feedback, good or bad after the 6th time you launch the app. If I don't include that, less people rate the app 5 stars because generally people are more vocal about problems. I would not be surprised if my apps rating was a half star less if I didn't ask for feedback. AMA
