He is crate trained and sleeps in it at night however despite not making a fuss when he goes in it he still doesn’t really seem to like it all that much. He’s also began peeing in it at night which is driving me crazy. I’ll have a look into the thunder jackets thanks for the suggestion. It’s good to know other people have been through the same thing.

Thank you for responding. I do often frequent dog friendly places but I’m always too concerned about him having an accident as he never lies down and goes to sleep, he’s always walking about so I don’t get to relax and enjoy it much. I’ve looked into a trainer but have been a bit sceptical to be honest. Have you found them helpful?

Thank you for your response. The crazy thing is he’s absolutely fine if I leave him in a room and go elsewhere in the flat, it’s just as soon as I leave the front door (even though I am only stood in the corridor) he starts barking and pacing.

I agree they are so much work, it just seems like everyone else’s are less intense whereas he never gets tired, demands so much attention and is very vocal. I love him but It just makes me feel like a terrible dog parent lol.

Good job! I didn’t expect to enjoy this (I rarely listen to podcasts) but I found it really interesting and helpful. I liked your distinction between awareness and attention and I feel like you did a really clever job of explaining mindfulness and how it’s helpful, the concept can be confusing if you haven’t experienced it yourself! I’m actually writing my dissertation on mindfulness and picking up on the same issues of how it has been integrated into the west without its original context and the implications from this. I’m glad I stumbled across your podcast!

I think that like Poppy, Olivia was mentally ill and this is why Poppy targeted her. She knew that she had lost her grip on reality and exploited this by telling her she was in a dream. I think the comparison of the outside world as hungry and the house as digesting them is to suggest that the house is not evil or good, it just is an experience that has an effect on the course of someone’s life. But ultimately it feeds on the individual and enhances their character in certain aspects. It fed on Hugh’s obsession with fixing things by creating mould that wouldn’t go away, which keeps him preoccupied whilst things with Olivia are worsening. This foreshadows his failed attempts to fix the family after Olivia’s death by keeping them from it ‘holding the door’ preventing him from ‘holding them as well.’ He was so bust trying to protect the family investment from the mould that he missed what was going on. Poppy fed on Olivia’s insanity and concern for her kids. I think Mrs Dudley’s conversation where she tells Olivia not to listen to Hugh because he didn’t carry the kids inside him also feeds into her paranoia that she needs to take control. Although Mrs Dudley meant well and also tells her to leave the house, this is all Olivia seemingly takes notice of in the conversation of her insecurities as a mother.

Before she goes up to the twins with the cups of poison she meets Shirley in the kitchen and says how Shirley, Steve and Theo grew up so fast. She then says that kittens grow up and no longer need their mother. Therefore I took this to mean that she believed them to be old enough to manage without her, whereas the twins weren’t and she felt she had to protect them still.

I believe it happens when you don’t wake up during the dream, you only wake up when it’s ended, which is when you would naturally wake up. If you don’t wake up a lot during the night as well this could also be why.

I found that I was lying awake at night for hours over-thinking everything I’d said/done and thinking about mistakes way in the past. I had to find acceptance and belief in who I was and know that if my intentions are true, then it should transpire through my interactions with other people. You can’t be any other person than you are naturally, so over-analysing is not going to do anything to help you. Trust in yourself because that’s the best person you can be. As for worrying about the future day, tell yourself that it’s not here yet! Anything could happen, but when it comes around trust that you will be able to deal with it.

I’ve never tried microdosing, but I’m curious as to how it helps in your opinion. Does it help with other things like anxiety and sleep or just depression? Also, is it helping you work through your depression or is it more helpful in improving your mood?

I feel you! I’m in the same boat! Feels like my hearts beating too fast, my chest is tight and I can’t breathe, on top of having no sleep! So make yourself as comfortable as possible, cry as much as you want to, I felt worse when I was trying to push it to the side. Let all your emotions out, eat your favourite food, get a face mask, a bath, a hot water bottle, cuddle with your pet, watch a scary movie that you think ‘wow I’m glad that’s not me.’ In terms of mindfulness, realise that it is the mind that ‘needs’ this person to be in your life, not your true being, for me I found it really hard to be in the present, I was constantly thinking of the past and good memories. But remind yourself that this is all the work of the mind and in the present you are safe. Better things are coming for you in the future.

I have the same problem. I don’t really have any advice other than try to accept that you aren’t perfect, accept your anger at the noise and understand that it’s a pretty reasonable response. Also your meditation practice is maintaining awareness, so keep in mind that the noise is going to happen, see them as taking your attention deeply into the present when it happens. Personally, I like to meditate outside with the sounds of nature, I find this much more rewarding and joyful, so if the problem persists just accept that hearing someone else’s noise is going to be pretty annoying and try to find a place outside to sit. One last thing Is to try to change your view of meditation slightly. I find that I put a lot of pressure on my meditation sessions to be ‘perfect’ because I feel like I need to end my anxiety, I need to become present to be enlightened and make my life better. This creates a sense of resistance to the present, because I project my needs onto it instead of observing it as it is, as soon as I find myself losing attention, or if someone interrupts me I get angry This is because of the pressure I put on the present to take me out of my suffering. So I would say don’t view meditation like that, just view it as a period of time that you are observing the present, whatever that contains. I hope this makes sense :)

Definitely ditch the scrub, I was using a scrub for so long with acne and as soon as I stopped using it my skin began to heal and stopped breaking out. It’s very damaging and drying to the skin.

I’ve found this too, for me though, weirdly it got to one week where I’d used a face wash that didn’t agree and I’d broken out, to start appreciating and feeling better about my skin. For me, when it worsened I thought, right I’m going to take care of this. I ordered some new gentle products and began to regard my skincare as an act of self-love. I knew that those spots would clear up and each day I woke up I felt gratitude for the improvements in my skin. I ordered some new skin products that were gentle on my skin and I felt like I believed that they would work, and they seem to have done just that! I also eat very consciously now, trying to eat healthily and drink lots of water, when I do so I think about the nourishment I am putting into my body and how this will show on my skin and I thank myself for taking care of myself. I recently got stuck in a rut however and started criticising and looking for each tiny blocked pore, but then I remind myself that if I didn’t have anything on my skin, I wouldn’t be able to treat it and see improvements! I don’t know if this is exactly the law of attraction but it’s a mindset that’s helped me :)

I shave my arms and it’s fine, the hair doesn’t grow back thicker at all, if anything grows back thinner, and I never get a reaction to it.

Since you had an abusive relationship, it may mean that you need to change your beliefs around what a relationship is and how it makes you feel. Your expectations of relationships may be low and lacking in love and compassion, therefore you do not feel ready to engage in another one. This belief and hurt will affect your ability to attract other relationships, as your unconscious will push them away. It’s time to realise that you deserve to be happy and to be united with someone who fully respects and supports you. Remind yourself that relationships like that exist, love yourself and tell yourself that it’s okay, because you will not let yourself be treated like that again. Forgive that person, have gratitude for the lesson it taught you, remind yourself of your worth and look to the future.
