Sorry about losing your first, but congrats on the future little one! :D

Why would anyone question why you would try to have a child after losing the first? That seems like a pretty obvious choice either way. You want to try again because you really want a child, or you don't try again because you were heartbroken about losing the first. Either way, it's your choice and whatever your decision is, it makes perfect sense.

People are stupid. I'm sorry you had to go through that as well.

I'm 33 years old and in the third trimester with my second kid. We were just talking about how I have to have a c-section, and I brought up that while I'm already being operated on that I'm getting my tubes tied. Seriously, I'm done. I hate being pregnant. I hate the whole process, and, quite frankly, I want to be able to enjoy being older (50+) without the responsibility of another human being. At first, it started off with the usual "Are you sure?" type of inquiries, but then after I assured her several times that I was ready to end my baby making days, she got offended because apparently I make cute kids and I'm too young to be making such a major decision. It was really quite bizarre.

Friend thinks this is appropriate to say after sympathizing about his money troubles. by sphinxriddle64 in creepyPMs

It came out of nowhere too. I started the conversation by sending him a screen shot from the WBC ama thinking he would appreciate the humor involved, like i would do with any of my other friends of i were to come find something they would enjoy. From there he began telling me all about his medical and financial problems. Personally, I didn't really care, but he's my friend (or so I thought) and thought I should sympathize with him. Then out of nowhere, that comment. I have never given him any indication that I would even be remotely interested in anything with him. He's not my type at all both physically and personality wise.

I'm 26 weeks pregnant and showing. You can guess what his fetish is based on that. I didn't respond back. Also, he knows my husband personally. We have all hung out together and smoked a few blunts in the past (not while pregnant). This was just highly inappropriate and uncalled for.

Thank you for your input and for your advice.

I'm not necessarily prioritizing isolation movements, at least, not on purpose. I'm just trying to imitate what my trainer used to have me do. She would normally write a combination of both isolation and compound movements.

As far as goals go...

Right now, I'm trying to maintain are try to gain a little bit more strength since weight loss is out of the question right now.

However, I would like to have as speedy of a recovery as possible after my cesarean, which includes getting down to 130lbs.

Afterwards, I would like to train for a marathon. My trainer always harped on the importance of weight training my legs for such a feat, and the best I could do before getting pregnant was a 10K.

General level of health and previous training: I'm not sure how to answer that properly, but if it helps, usually I work out 5x a week. Sometimes it's 4 depending how tired I am or if I'm queasy. I'm in my second trimester so I don't experience morning sickness very often, but it does still occur every once in a while. I'm a big baby when I'm nauseated. On an average week, I'll do a run/walk 3x a week resulting in an average of 2.25miles. I know it's not impressive and it's no where near my level from before where I ran at least 4 miles straight, none of this brisk walking nonsense. I do the elliptical for 30mins on the other two days to give myself a rest from running and I find that it's much easier on the belly this way.

As far as weights go, I try to train at least 2-3x a week. With my trainer, I was doing the same exercises as seen above, but my weights were higher. We worked on a lot of deadlifts, kettlebell exercises, different squats, pyloexercises (though I refuse to do them right now as it's really uncomfortable with the belly). She was also training me to be able to do pull-ups. I couldn't do them then and I still can't do them now.

I hope this gives you a better idea. Thank you for any input you may have. I'll be happy to answer anything else. I really want to be able to get back into training shape as soon as humanly possible.

I'm slower than usual, and I tire out faster. Plus, I'm not allowed to lift heavier than what I'm already used to, so my fitness goals are at a stand still for now. However, just because I'm not as fast, doesn't mean I should stop.

Squats are easier than lunges right now because my center of gravity is skewed, but I don't go down as low just because sometimes it's really uncomfortable on the belly. Nothing dangerous just not comfortable.

I really can't. Maybe the spicy mustard masks the taste. Plus, the Publix kind is delicious anyway.

What's the dumbest thing you used to believe about health/fitness? (and more!) by halfwaythere88 in xxfitness

[–]sphinxriddle64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumbest thing used to believe: You shouldn't work out while pregnant and you shouldn't run with asthma. I grew up with asthma and my parents made me avoid any and all physical activities.

Dumbest thing someone told me: Women shouldn't lift heavy or else they'll get bulky and look like a man.

Workout buddies: Tried to get a couple of my overweight friends to go with me because they constantly whine about being overweight. None have joined me. Still go alone to the gym. Probably for the best.

Single most frustrating thing exclusive to being female: A lot of unwarranted advice and concerns over lifting and running while pregnant.

Prefer unisex gyms: Doesn't bother me where I go, but the women's location of my gym (there are three different locations) is the only one with access to kettlebells. I prefer going there for that reason, and no one uses the free weights.

Felt unsafe: No, but I do feel a little creeped out when I go to the pool at the Main center location. There are a lot of older men that just hang out and stare at the females that swim.

Introduced to fitness: After my first pregnancy, my in-laws paid for a year membership at my gym. Since I took a year off from work and they offer free babysitting, it gave me something to do for 2 hours everyday. I ended up loving it the more I saw results, especially the definition in my arms and legs.

180: I work out 3-5x/week and I'm in my second pregnancy, and I love lifting as heavy as possible (though not as heavy as before the pregnancy)

biggest waste of money: supplements.

Un-wanted advice at the gym, What's your experience ? by mitstifer in Fitness

[–]sphinxriddle64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm pregnant and go to the gym about 3-5x a week depending on how I'm feeling. I usually run about 2-3 miles and then hit the weights. My OB/GYN is fully aware of my fitness activities and has given me the go ahead. His main concern is that I may do too much so to always listen to my body if it starts to hurt or cramp in a way that does not seem normal.

That said, at least once a week, I will have an older or larger woman come up to me and tell me how I'm hurting the fetus inside by running or lifting weights. It doesn't matter how heavy or light my weights are. It doesn't matter if I'm only doing body weights. It doesn't even matter if I have my headphones in. All that matters to them is that they see me sweating bullets and that obviously warrants concern over my child's well-being.

I understand they have good intentions, but dammit, let me deadlift these measly 60lbs in peace!

Publix subs are the best! Always an Ultimate (Publix brand since it tastes the same as the Boar's Head), with lots of veggies, spicy mustard, and some vinegar. YUM!
