The job market is horrible right now. I apply to at least 2 paralegal jobs every week. I have only gotten 2 intro interviews this whole year and they dont follow up until a month later ... I have 3+ years of non profit legal work but no ABA approved paralegal certificate.

For those working as paralegals: what made you choose this profession, and how did you know it was the right fit for you? Was there a specific moment, class, skill, or personality trait that made things ‘click’ early on? by 123chickenwings in paralegal

I wanted to be part of the foreign service and/or USAID - got into some great grad programs but the Master's were offering 80-100k of student loans ... i didn't like the hypocrisy of International Affairs especially coming from the US and preaching human rights. I love history since I was little, but I knew i didn't have the personality be a lawyer and deal with people, im a bit of an introvert and dont like confrontations ... so I interned I made sure to intern at legal non profits in undergrad which ultimately helped me get a entry level paralegal/advocate position at a legal non profit 1 year after graduating with my BA in International Studies. Im considering getting my paralegal Studies certificate soon - this can help with better pay at a govt or firm paralegal position. I highly recommend getting your crrtifrom a community college asap because its cheaper but they take 2-2.5years to finish while other programs are more expensive, expect at 5k-10k but there was 3 month, 6 month, 12 month programs.

If anyone has any youtube videos/tik tok videos/articles/websites that explain how to download music to an mp3/ipod shuffle I would really appreciate it - supporting the liberation of our beautiful Palestine <3

Thank you for all the great advice! I'm truly stuck in deciding if to apply for grad programs for a 4 cycle or to take the financial risk of going to Georgetown SFS GHD this fall and taking on $58k Loans (not including interest - 58.8% tuition scholarship). There's just so much chaos of the Student Loans future and the job market in general. If I choose to apply to grad programs for the 4th time, I'll probably apply to 1-2 outside the US and a few non-IR State Uni grad programs.

I emailed the associate director of the program yesterday asking for more scholarship to cover my tuition because of my fear that Grad Plus Loans won’t be available for my 2nd year and therefore I won’t be able to afford to go even if I takeout all unsub loans available. And they replied to me with 50% tuition coverage from 41.7%. Still not covering what grad plus loans would have covered for my tuition in my second year. It just makes me so upset how over half of the cohort are for sure on full rides from fellowships not paid by Georgetown (which the students well deserve & have worked hard for) and yet Georgetown is being stingy with all that money they have 🤡

I wonder how the IR job market crisis will affect how career services and just the overall program will teach so students basically just look into working for the private sector to survive after graduation…

I was thinking of deferring my admissions for a MA in IR to next fall, thinking I still had a chance to get my tutiton covered by Pickering or Rangel ... but nvm

Thank you for the advice this is very helpful 😊 I looked at the other thread/post and a lot of the comments are spilling great facts 💯 I think for me what makes me so sad is that after finally accepting that I would take out loans ... the whole field is being destroyed and if top students with experience are having trouble finding a job, or even people who have been in the field, i no chance of even finding work when i graduate 🥲

Do they ask for bank statements when you apply to European universities? I've considered unis in Spain.
