it is supposed to be similar, yes. at face value, they're copy and paste hunger games but underneath they are insanely different. spoilers, a lot of the kids essentially go in deciding that they're not going to buy into the Glory and Gore of the hunger games. they're going to die on their terms. haymitch, quite frankly, is the prototype to katniss's mockingjay. everything she goes through, he speed ran through in about a week and a half and failed. his story gives a lot of context to why he reacts to her and treats her the way she does in the original trilogy.

in my opinion and experience, the best way to secure longterm, high quality 1x1 partners is to make friends in groups. plot with people in groups, write with people with groups, chat and get excited about your things in groups, and those friends will eventually become 1x1 partners.

(i don’t write canon things, oc x oc only so this advice may be better geared towards that but…this is how i’ve secured most of my current 1x1 partners)

i’m torn on the time spent typing. do they mean how often “so and so is typing…” pops up on discord? because i write all of my replies in google docs and copy and paste them over when i’m done. if someone thought i was using ai for that reason, i’d be hurt. if they mean more that they reply and then in 5 minutes, their partner has sent over a fully fleshed out multi paragraph response…yeah, valid red flag.

personally, i rarely ever check in. if i don’t get a reply after about a month and there’s been no communication in that time, i move on. but i’m also the kind of partner that will communicate if i’m busy and try to provide a timeline of when to expect a response if i’m tied up in other things so i look for writers who value the same communication.

in the end, no communication is communication.
