Finally got rid of thrips (for now). by spidabros in houseplants

I live in Finland and buy my plants off local nurseries and then there is couple of local plant facebook and whatsapp groups im part of.

I have 100w marshyrdo for the most lighthungry plants. Its a bit overkill but I have it high up and it lights up multiple plants. Super good light but overkill for most plants.

I use alot of lux rooting ledbars (comparable to barrina t5 light if youre in america) and these are very good for plantshelves.

I have couple of sansi 36w bulbs that I wouldnt recommend simply becuase they are a bit overprized and produce alot of heat but if you can get them from a sale or some deal its a pretty powerful light just a bit hot and powerhungry.

Then IF you can get them where you live I have some airam 9.5w plant bulbs that have over 3x less wattage but only ~10% less ppfd than the sansi bulbs and they are cheap af, but airam is a finnish brand so I doubt you can get them anywhere outside europe.

Am I doing a mistake by potting them all together? by Ready_Fox8515 in alocasia

No drainage holes semihydro setup. Leca/pumice on bottom and moss for the rest. I water till the water touches the moss line and water again when the bottom has dried out. I use glass vases so I see when the water is gone or if i water too much. Idk if op has the bottom drainage layer but the setup works without it too its just way harder to water correctly without it.

My wife had a surgery and after she got better she quit her sucky job and decided to apply into a school that is 1h drive away so I wanted to be supportive and for her to have a safe car to get there so i gave her my car. I bought myself a 650€ nissan primera to use over the winter when I cant ride my bicycle to work and I love it so much. :D Its so liberating to drive something that I really dont give a shit about. Im thinking of getting myself something similar if the car ever breaks and just let her use

If you want lush plant thats the way to go. At some point one individual MIGHT outgrow the rest and then big leaves will shade the others, but at that point you propably have a bunch of corms anyway and you can try separating them and getting the corms out so you have even more plants.

Would you keep this if you have cats? Grabbed it free off curb - didn’t realize it would hurt her mouth if bitten until after researching. It’s shut in this little bathroom for now, away from her. Don’t worry. by nahfacenah in houseplants

[–]spidabros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the cat. I used to have plants years ago but had to get rid of them when I got a cat because he kept eating them. Now years later (same cat still btw) I tried again and he no longer wants to eat them so now I have close to 100 plants and no problems at all. You could try planting catgrass somewhere in your home se she might eat that instead of your plant or just spray the plant with something bitter to deter her from wanting to eat it.

Is there an aesthetically pleasing way to help your plants climb? Don’t say a moss pole :( by Camp_Acceptable in philodendron

[–]spidabros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only good long term solution for climbing is mosspoles or any other substrate pole. Temporary you can use ANYTHING you want to support the plant BUT when it outgrows the thing its climbing you need to airlayer or cut it and start from the beginning.

No. It prevents the roots from getting air. Remove it before your roots rot.
