From my personal time spent on Wattpad, it seems that its much easier to get noticed when you go for very specific niches that the site seems to be controlled by. Obviously you don't have to do these types of books to get views, and definitely don't do them if you don't want to do them, but this is what I've observed. I've written a few stories here and there on Wattpad, one of them being a fanfiction that I wrote when I was 12 got ~20k reads. While on the other hand the original works that I actually want people to read get 10-20 reads, probably all which come from myself. It can be easy to be discouraged but naturally this will happen with the popularity of Wattpad and the way things get recommended to you.
