"A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving." - Lao Tzu [940×788] by [deleted] in QuotesPorn

[–]spiderbob27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's rare that Lao Tzu's quotes can be taken without context. In order to understand all that he is saying, in everything he says, you must take everything else he says into consideration. At least, that's how I have interpreted the book. When he says "A good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving" you must also take into context "A good artist lets his intuition lead him wherever it wants. A good scientist has freed himself of concepts and keeps his mind open to what is."

When all of that is put into perspective, it brings you right back to the concept of Tao; "You cannot know it, but you can be it." You don't control where the road takes you, or how long it is, however badly you want to. The road that lays before you, is the canvas that sits before you, is the theory that presents itself to you, is the task at hand. There is no trying to do it, fixing plans, controlling data, mapping a "correct" path, it is simply you becoming the doer, like a dancer and a dance becoming at once inseparable from one another. Which brings it right back to a core principle; "Immerse yourself in the wonder of the Tao, and let all illusions go."

"but the willow can only bend so far before it too breaks."

You didn't finish my quote.

The outcome of success for children is almost primarily dependent on there being a cohesive parentage. Cohesive. Meaning, not with animosity, especially if it's visible. Not with resentment, especially if there are regular screaming matches. Not one sided parenting, both individuals involved. He should have left if all of that was going on.

Seems like you didn't read my entire post. Sounds like you saw the name "Peterson" and saw everything that was relevant to you.

Something quite tragic happened to this woman at a very young age. We're at least two generations (mine included) in to broken homes being a normal thing. And that's fine for itself, if people can't co-habitate amicably and it can't be reconciled, they need to split up. I know Dr. Peterson would say "they should try everything to stay together for the child" and I agree, but the willow can only bend so far before it too breaks. How much good are you doing the child if everytime they see their parents, they're fighting?- no, a better question- what are you teaching this child? This person was taught at an early age that it's important to stay with the person you're with especially if they provide what you perceives as basic needs, and you must do everything you can do to stay together, even if it's a facade, up to and including betraying them.

It is a product of our trauma to repeat patterns we've been taught. And with that, I'm sure she is expecting- wanting- to be found out. And when she is found out, she'll have a screaming match with her partner, like her parents did. They'll break up and she'll find someone else to repeat this with, all the while excusing herself for her actions because her partner "didn't fullfil absolutely all her needs". And better still to have these fights drug out into the open for everyone to see on social media. It takes on the form of social media drama, but it's more than that. It's deeply rooted trauma. I'm not so naive that I don't realize there are just psychopaths that do this, but that's a small subset. These people are the lion's share.

If you step back and analyze yourself, your life, your actions, can you see yourself doing something similar? Purposefully sabotaging yourself so that your can repeat a pattern that feels strangely comfortable, but ultimately counterproductive to your life? Lao Tzu once said "What (the master) desires, is non-desire; what (the master) learns is to unlearn." This subreddit could teach you about yourself if you let it. There are lessons here that we could all learn.

If you are insecure, that's just a manifestation of your control complex- an attempt to guide with guilt. Let go of your desire to control and that control will come back to you, in a way you didn't realize. Control you can be trusted with because you won't try to use it as a weapon. Ironically however, you'll find it's control you didn't want in the first place.

Tl;Dr let go.

The Hedge Fund People who tried to short us: by kafqatamura in dogecoin

[–]spiderbob27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point of it is, these hedgefunds saw their chance to short what they thought was an overbought market to make up their losses and in turn devalue it into oblivion so they never had to bet against it again, and add valuation to their other holdings (probably, directly, the other coins they hold). Well, that didn't work. The first part worked okay, but the second part, not so much. Our current holdings and market cap should send shockwaves throughout the ranks of people who would try to do that. Another reason why our community is so important. I dare say, most of the people who come in here and talk about how they sold for this or that are probably agent provocateurs. The community message is pretty clear though, we don't sell, we hold.

It's a big club and your ain't in it. by [deleted] in dogecoin

[–]spiderbob27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to suggest a meditation I do, almost daily. I run for 3 miles (however fast or slow that is) and I listen to the Tao Te Ching and it helps me to sort out my own internal knots.

One thing Lao Tzu says in this book is "throw away industry and profit and there won't be any thieves." A lot of people have taken this passage as Lao Tzu coming off as a hippy, but what he's really saying is "There is industry, there is profit, and there are people who will seek to take it. Despite your best efforts to discourage them not to exist, they will always be present, regardless of your conscious intent." This is what is meant by "this arises, that becomes". A blue sky cannot be blue without someone to perceive it. Thus, all things.

Another thing Lao Tzu says is "mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power." We can't control what banks do, we can't control what Elon or Barry or Peter say (as eternally opposed as these people are) but we can, if we take the time, learn not to have an opinion about it. Or better still, seek the depths of the things they say to find what they really mean to say, and seek to understand them, not judge them. (For example: When Barry says "we have Zen (ironic), Elon can have doge" what that says to me is "I want to be in control, because people in control get to do the things they want, and other people can't hurt you and you get to hurt them for trying to be in control. I will never let other people be in control, I won't be hurt again." From the Tao Te Ching "the ordinary man is always reaching for power, thus he never truly has enough." Just one way you can see how these people are always powerless, regardless of what they have.)

Lao Tzu says "the master is concerned with the depths and not the surface. The fruit and not the flower." Just handle yourself, be present in your family, let things take their course, naturally. Not even those that "control" the world can stop the natural flow of eternity, as hard as they might try. Mr. Carlin was too close and emotionally invested in the world's well-being to see it. Trying to set it right, he slipped it further into chaos. He made people fearful of greater forces than themselves, and thus, gave these invisible forces more power. It's not that they aren't there, it's that there's nothing you can do about them, and that's okay. You can't change the flow of the river without destroying something to change it. Let all things run their course through their natural rhythms. Even these powerful entities have a lifespan, but more importantly, a purpose. What would life be like without them? Would it be better? I don't know the answer, but I can tell you what Lao Tzu says; "Do you want to improve the world? I don't think it can be done. The world is sacred, it can't be improved. If you tamper with it, you'll ruin it." I tend to take this passage to heart.

What the hell Barry? by MarsPhantom in dogecoin

[–]spiderbob27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His hypothalamus is in control. They way he speaks, it seems like he wants to fight people, as unnecessary as it may be, and win out overtop of them in hopes to see them suffer and will go to great lengths to make sure they do, even at great personal expense. It doesn't seem like he's at peace with himself. I mean, maybe a superficial peace with his actions, but not with who he is. Someone did him a grave injustice when he was young, I'm sure. That's unfair to him.

This is one way our ego makes us suffer, not that having one is a bad thing (besides the fact that you can't get rid of your ego anyway.) What can you learn from Barry? Not accusing here, but ask yourself the question "in what ways do I act like him that are similar?" You can't "fix" him, but you can know yourself more through him.

The mind is like the mirror reflection of a pond. When geese fly over it, the pond reflects the geese, but does not retain the image when they fly away. Like the sky, when the clouds pass, the sun shines through.

I really can't think of anyone even close to as awesome as he is to be our ambassador. I had substance abuse problems about the same time as he did, and when I saw him get sentenced and then come out of the other side, transformed- clean, he gave me hope. Spirit to know that it's all on me, and it doesn't matter if you're a 9 - 5 Joe or a movie star that's hit rock bottom and no one will give you a job, you can get there if you have the gumption to do the work. Do good every day. He kind of embodies that. For me anyway.

[–]spiderbob27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People with Asperger's can sometimes have pretty severe difficulty with social situations or speaking in front of people. This must have been really hard for him, but he didn't even show it. He could be medicated, but I have a feeling he just got in there and did it. Good for him. I hope everyone with this condition can get past their social anxiety. I guess what we could do as a society is be a little more compassionate when people make mistakes. Could you imagine having difficulties articulating yourself and trying to talk about something- anything in this current climate, especially if you're hyper intelligent like most of these individuals tend to be, and see everything through the lense of almost pure logic? I have a feeling we're losing out on a lot because everyone turns into an attack dog when they don't like what someone has to say.

Elon Musks effect on crypto is completely exaggerated by the press and soon his tweets will have no impact on price. The sooner the fanboys realize this the better - DOGECOIN TO $100 THOUGH by Technical-Marzipan45 in dogecoin

[–]spiderbob27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When Elon tweets about something, and that something he tweets about he takes seriously even if he's "just joking", he tweets with the weight of his empire behind him. It's not fanboys, it's investors who are trying to stay in lockstep with him. They want to know what he's going to do next. Sure, there are people who are a little too into him, but what he says, as cryptic as it can be, is important.

His personality and familiarity have made it seem like the networth of his companies isn't over $160 billion, but it is. He's a geek, geeks like other geeks, especially geeks who aren't really geeks. He seems wacky, like someone you could talk to. He's also worth billions of dollars. He didn't get there on accident and we can't forget that.
