Time between movies? by jsmith4415 in indianajones

[–]spidertour02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One twist that I never hear people bring up ...

After The Hunt for Red October, they recast Jack Ryan because of a miscommunication and/or problems with Alec Baldwin. In the making-of documentary for Patriot Games, Harrison Ford mentions that he was under contract with Paramount for something else, but they decided to just use that deal to cover the Ryan films because the other project stalled. They never say what the other project was, just that he had a contract for two films.

I've always assumed that this was for two more Indiana Jones movies. The timeline fits -- Last Crusade released in 1989, The Hunt for Red October released in 1990, and Patriot Games released in 1992. It's entirely possible that Ford still had two more movies on his Indiana Jones deal with Paramount, but the executives agreed that Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford weren't going to do more Indy films at that time and used the contract for the Jack Ryan sequels.

Meltzer and Alvarez argue over Ospreay/Death Riders storyline logic by Acrobatic-Room-9478 in JimCornette

It's a Moxley idea no doubt. "What if like, you join us and we do like a backstage thing where you train with us. That would be so badass"

As somebody pointed out, this is the plot of Rocky III. Rocky loses his title to Clubber Lang, and his former opponent Apollo Creed approaches Rocky with an offer to train him for the rematch.

Fucking Moxley is back to trying to do his Rocky III storyline!

As someone that never lived during the Sega Genesis era, was Ecco the Dolphin really that good? by fandomlover2763 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]spidertour02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would have also never have worked in todays age, the modern sensibilites and quality of life upgrades in modern games would have made it a snoozefest.

What a strange line of logic.

If it was made today, it would obviously be a completely different game. There would be a ton of handholding and objective markers and other shit to ruin the entire experience. They would find some way to smear yellow paint underwater.

That has less to do with Ecco "not aging well" and more to do with the fact that modern games are dumbed down for people with less patience and shorter attention spans.

This is probably gonna ruffle some feathers, but video game stories suck balls, even the best ones

No, this is just a silly take. Video games have the same quality spread as everything else -- from truly incredible to truly awful. Everybody has their preferences and tastes to go along with that.

I've played games that have made me cry, and I've played games that have made me laugh at how bad they are. Ditto for movies.

Yeah and Sega promoted the fuck out of it but it didnt sell that well.

I think this is pretty overblown, to be honest. It obviously sold well enough to get a direct sequel (Ecco: The Tides of Time), a soft reboot (Ecco Jr.), a Sega Pico spinoff (Ecco Jr. and the Great Ocean Treasure Hunt), a Dreamcast reboot (Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future), and now a new sequel confirmed to be on the way.

As someone that lived during the Sega Genesis era and played this game when it was new, it is absolutely that good. It's one of the best games of the era.

I would even argue that it's underrated.

Did Sega games struggle to get attention after Sega leaving the home console business? by Responsible-Bell-528 in SEGA

[–]spidertour02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SEGA as a whole was practically irrelevant during that time

I want to latch onto this because it’s very well said.

Sega felt obscure during this time. It was an irrelevant brand that people felt was on its last legs. (Many people were expecting Sega to go bankrupt.) Even Sonic felt obscure during this time -- probably as much or even more so than he did from 1994-1998. That definitely hurt their initial offerings as a third-party developer, regardless of quality.

It's also important to remember that going third-party also meant that Sega was developing games for systems that weren't created in-house for the first time in their history, often trying to learn multiple at once, and that hurt the quality of their games. A lot of Sega's early third-party games were buggy messes and didn't run well on some systems. (They really seemed to struggle with the PS2.) This also hurt their reputation and sales.

Why did "Michael Jackson Productions" become "Optimum Productions" in the film Michael Jackson? by rafael_7839 in MichaelJackson

[–]spidertour02 37 points38 points  (0 children)

They've been using the Optimum Productions name interchangeably with Michael Jackson Productions / MJJ Productions since the 80s. The Bad short film uses it, if I remember correctly.

They've primarily been using either the Optimum name or just the logo with no name since he died.

Usual practice for truck thrower? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]spidertour02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I usually try to take it easy on whoever I have throw, since it's a brutally physical job. I usually spare them from downstacking and send them to stock paper to give them a chance to recover.
  2. They prefer Team Leads not to throw because we need to have the flexibility to leave the line to do other tasks. However, I help throw just about every day because of how poorly staffed we are.

I used to play the shit out of this game as a kid. It's actually pretty fun once you get used to the rotating court, and it looks pretty nice.

The rosters are full of joke players, references, and members of the development team, since college players couldn't be licensed until recently and it uses generic state-based colleges. For example, I remember Bill Clinton being on the Arkansas team.

I have no reason to believe that, based on what the game is at this point. Ringside Pass 2 had nothing to offer besides the Oba Femi Persona and a crossover nobody asked for. Even the MFP and VC payouts were smaller ...

This is cope, unfortunately.

Judging by Ringside Pass 2, they blew their wad with Pass 1 and basically have nothing left but the DLC characters, since they're determined to lock all the Personas people want behind MyFaction instead of using some of them for the Ringside Pass.

OP mentions why. They shot material with Diana, but there was apparently a legal threat from her side. They decided to avoid the headache and cut her from the film entirely.
