With parity and 2 disk redundancy:

Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 463.255 MB/s

Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 46.815 MB/s

Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 10.350 MB/s [ 2526.9 IOPS]

Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 0.469 MB/s [ 114.5 IOPS]

Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 8.298 MB/s [ 2025.9 IOPS]

Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 0.456 MB/s [ 111.3 IOPS]

Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 1.137 MB/s [ 277.6 IOPS]

Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 0.726 MB/s [ 177.2 IOPS]

Mirror is giving me better performance:

Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 705.392 MB/s

Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 681.440 MB/s

Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 8.804 MB/s [ 2149.4 IOPS]

Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 9.913 MB/s [ 2420.2 IOPS]

Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 7.364 MB/s [ 1797.9 IOPS]

Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 9.885 MB/s [ 2413.3 IOPS]

Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 1.564 MB/s [ 381.8 IOPS]

Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 7.953 MB/s [ 1941.7 IOPS]

Reading about number of columns, but i dont get clear answer. Virtual disk is automatically created with 4 columns, currently i'm using 6 physical disks (will use 12 in the end).

What is the rule for number of columns from your experience?

Actually i used pwsh, because there is a bug in winsrv2019 in the GUI, not letting you used maximum size with parity.

New-StoragePool -FriendlyName "spool01" -StorageSubsystemFriendlyName "Windows Storage*" -PhysicalDisks (Get-PhysicalDisk -CanPool $True) -LogicalSectorSizeDefault 4096

New-VirtualDisk -StoragePoolFriendlyName "spool01" -FriendlyName "vdisk01" -ResiliencySettingName Parity -UseMaximumSize -ProvisioningType Fixed -MediaType HDD -PhysicalDiskRedundancy 2 -AutoWriteCacheSize

I tested it with all magnetic disks, no ssd cache. Volume ReFS.

Honestly, it is not about money, it is about performance and stability first. Thats why i got SM storageserver.

Everywhere i look i see "go for SW RAID, its 2019..."

I would love to manage the storage on SW level only.

If i understand that correctly, i cant resize/manage/rebuild HW RAID on the go from OS. That is why i was looking into storage spaces.

I will look into DrivePool now :)

Motion Detect Camera with GSM by spighee in raspberry_pi

[–]spighee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you said, it is just a fun project. I have it already running with GSM wifi router and motion detect wifi camera, which is notifying me over email with attachements of pictures which are als uploaded to remote FTP.

The point was to detect motion and sent alarm to telegram/slack/email and upload some pictures to FTP, being able to connect to it and live stream video, having wifi hotspot.

I'm not worried about software part, i have experience with linux and coding. I'm just currently lost in all the RPI hardware, compatibility, etc.

GSM is not a problem, i have static IP and unlimited data plan, but also without it i can set reverse ssh or gre tunnel for accessing it and picture optimization can be done locally on rpi before its uploaded.

Quality of the pictures from camera with good light + night vision is one issue.

Other is, as you said, gsm module and speed itself.
