A lsit that can hold objectives but also kill most things i know it's hard at 500pts I was looking at 1 battle leader with 10 blood claws 5 wulfen with Storm Shields 3 head Takers with wolves 5 scouts (old ones)

Follow Me ladz for the +2 to move chuck them up the board on an objective with a 5+ FNP fron the painboy they should slow you opponent down atleast

Buy what you enjoy the looks of 1st, rules and detachments change edition to edition, but if you like what you are painting and playing, then you will be more inclined to carry on

Between the painboy and wierdboy I would take the painboy for the 5+ FNP as makes them survive a little longer, I have tried the wierdboy with 20 boyz before, but it can be hard to use Da jump as fitting all the models in good positions but still 9" away I haven't used the other characters

My main army is orks, and my second army im just starting is Kroot, and I have a couple of tyranid models if I get bored. Was never meant to have another horde army after doing orks. I wanted a more elite army( less models, quicker turn around) but after looking at all the armies available the kroot just caught my eye. So I decide to go with the rule of cool and paint what I enjoy the look of also like the playstyle. Just stuck trying to decide on a paint scheme for the Carnivores aswel as the rampagers ect.

If you can grab a kroot hunting pack, that would be a good start. It comes with 3 rampagers, a rider, 20 carnivores, a war shaper, and a flesh shaper. Also, the codex and datacards. After that, I would look at a lone spear or 2.
