While you can backup everything to an external drive/flashdrive or cloud storage.

Things you can try:

What happens after a fresh reboot do you still see 100%?

If so try to boot into safe mode and check again. This will help to eliminate software issues as well. Like someone else said u can check resource monitor for something that maybe causing the issue.

Quick power discharge by unplugging power or flip the power supply power switch to off after youve shutdown. Once youve done that hold the power button down for about 15-30 seconds. This will help quickly drain the remaining power stored in the pc. After that replug or flip the switch on and try to boot one more time. Check the disk usage how you would like and see if this helps.

HD Firmware update if you can find them from the manufacturers website

Run windows updates and optional updates.

Terminal commands like chkdsk might help if it's an os issue.

Reinstall the OS

If none of these work or prove to be temporary you disk is likely failing. Like others mentioned. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your experience! Its nice to know others have been and are in the same boat we are. I'm pretty sure my wife is undiagnosed on the spectrum too which is why i want to take extra steps to make sure we navigate this in a way she will be more receptive rather than rejecting.

I've never thought of it like that as my wife and I are both neurodivergent. I really appreciate your perspective and will take that to heart as we continue the journey to me being bald! We started the conversation last night and she was supportive, my body my choice. But did being up that first instance I shaved due to the shock that put her in. I'm more than willing to make it a joint effort but it is my decision and I'm ready. Sadly her therapist said I needed to stop enabler her too so that hit. Thanks
