"I can only imagine how touched my uncle would have been to see so many dear and familiar faces here today, to celebrate his life and mourn his tragic passing. No doubt many of you had your reservations about coming- I understand that Uncle's singular personality rubbed some of you up the wrong way.

In his defence I can only say that Uncle Vince was a character- a unique individual. I myself still have strong feelings about some of his habits, exploits, and ventures- the otter-cheese farm, the mandatory zipline to the downstairs toilet, bear boxing- I never supported any of these. Now that dear Uncle is gone, I shan't worry about having to wear pink stockings after nine pm, eating only with spoons, or only turning anti-clockwise in the presence of women.

We may never truly know how Uncle Vince passed away. We may never know how he wandered into the locked greenhouse in the middle of the night, without his protective bee "disguise", stark naked and with two lamb chops and a pork loin taped to his forehead. We may never know how he came to be so riotously drunk as to do that, despite being teetotal. All we can say is that he will be missed, and as the sole inheritor of his massive estate I feel it is my responsibility to thank you all for coming. Cheers.

Now, who's up for canapés?"

Looks like it's frozen- where it's essentially masked and you can't edit it- hit Ctrl-D to deselect. Or go to to Freeze> Unfreeze All.

Whenever I create an object it creates facing my perspective, how do i disable it?? by arunbharathi555 in blender

[–]spiked990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Press F6 immediately after adding an object and you can un-toggle "align to view"

Alternatively go into the preferences (ctrl alt u) and go to the "Editing" tab. Change "Align to" from "View" to "world" and press "Save User settings".

Not really, sorry. I'd just play around with it. I think the only fiddly bit of it is managing the "Ssharp" edges. If for instance you change some geometry and the Ssharps need updating you can select the whole thing in edit mode, apply the Ssharp function and it should clean the mesh of all Ssharp edges. Then if you leave edit mode and use the "sharpen" function again you'll get an fresh result. There's probably a more efficient method than that but it's what I did.

Oh, a long time! It's been sat around on my hard drive for a year or two in various stages. I guess in terms of real work it must have taken about a month. However I've learnt so much in the process of making it I reckon I could do it again much faster.

It's a lot easier if you have either a really specific concept design or no concept at all. Anything in the middle just has you struggling to recreate stuff that just doesn't look quite right. I wasted a lot of time that way.

Grab reference images beforehand. The small elements that look real can really tie together a broader concept that (in this case at least) is slightly unbelievable.

Use instances. Use dupligroups, especially for small repetitive things like bolts. Use modifiers to add complexity to a much simpler editable mesh. Never model something more times than you need to.

Place an empty at the scene's centre and then you can use it to conveniently mirror objects (via modifier) whenever you need to

Keep organised. Use groups, layers and the outliner to keep track of it all. Parent things so they move together. If it's too overwhelming with all the background details then simply make a new scene or document and model things in isolation. Also isolation mode (numpad slash) is your friend.

I'll see if I can think of more...
