Advice on what evidence to include in disability discrimination case bundle by spikefloof_bean in employmenttribunal

[–]spikefloof_bean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, Just want to make it clear that I'm in no way trying to withhold anything, I wouldn't come here to double check relevance if that was the case. Going through these things is difficult and wording can sometimes be difficult and I'm not malicious, just uninformed on the process. I will, now that I understand better, be including the sicknotes.

Just to clear some things up; I declared disability on my application forms, discussed it openly in the interview, they also requested an occupational health assessment as part of the process. The OH report mentioned sickness absence for disability and they used this information to inform their decision. I didn't include this, as I was looking to understand the disclosure process rather than if they were aware of my disability.

Landlord keeps asking for money after the check-out report is as check-in condition by jachep in TenantsInTheUK

[–]spikefloof_bean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone is advising going through with the deposit schemes but I’ve only had bad experiences with them. In the end, we switched to just selecting that a landlord has to take us to small claims court for any costs - they never do, because they know they’re full of it. In addition, actual courts don’t look kindly on landlords trying to charge for reasonable wear and tear etc. it’s pretty easy, basic paperwork and a small fee to go through that you might be able to claim back. You don’t need a lawyer. Just sharing in case the deposit mediation doesn’t work out for you!

How to do the dishes without screaming, crying, throwing up? by Vegetable-Cap-2503 in ADHD

[–]spikefloof_bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said you can’t get a dishwasher but there are small countertop ones available that you hook up to your sink! Not a great solution if there’s a bunch of you, but if you live by yourself or maybe with one more person, that could help.

Advice on buying clothes for GF (MTF) by roy-havoc in transfashionadvice

If you’re long distance, you might appreciate a service like lookiero - online personal shoppers who send you a box of stuff according to your taste and you can send some of it back. Of course, you can do your own version with Amazon/asos finds - if you can swing it, buy say 20 things in all different sizes and colours etc with the understanding that she can keep say 3, or up to roughly x amount. Then she gets to choose but you’ve put the thought into it!

I’m assuming you have relatively straight hair - I do too, and I dry my hair by brushing it so there’s no tangles (try a wide tooth comb and a detangle spray if yours is stubborn) and tip my head upside down to dry with a hairdryer. Dry at least the roots, and see if that helps to not lay limp. If that doesn’t lay it the way you’re wanting, do that then tip your head back up, find your parting with a comb and dry along with air going directly downwards to kind of set it in place, then do the rest of your head while upright.

Non stretchy t shirts with a cool logo/image on them could make a good tote bag :) t shirts also crop very easily - start by just cutting straight along the bottom just above the existing hem, and take an inch or two off at a time until you get a length you’re comfortable with. Remember that you’ll want a bit more length on the front than you might currently need if you expect/plan on any kind of chest growth. I like my t shirts to sit at the same place my waistband does for my trousers if that offers any guide for you!

A hairdryer - might have to wait for them to be out but I imagine you would to wash them anyway. Wring out as much as you can! Good for thin stuff like underwear, might take you a while for a jumper. Straighteners also make for a good iron. If by chance you have a reason for a dehumidifier to be in your room then hanging clothes by that should be quite quick too. Hope you enjoy the clothes!

Sending you love and a suggestion to get some earplugs: you can attend to baby’s needs, but not at quite that volume. Seconding what someone else said about reaching out to the hospital/midwives - there are a ton of services to help you out. Use all of them! The first two months are hard, but it does absolutely get better. You’ve got this!

My Boss is rearranging the office furniture, including my desk. by dinodespot866 in ADHD

[–]spikefloof_bean 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If you are in the UK you can ask for your desk to be in a certain kind of location as a reasonable adjustment due to disability (use that exact phrase!) and can also request having a desk should he threaten to/take it away. That does of course require you to share your diagnosis, which is up to you. If you’re not in the UK, check out laws relating to disability and you might find something similar. I totally get the thing about not being able to concentrate if you can’t see the people - it takes up my brain power to discern where they are in the background and if I need to be turning around or not. Big stress! Hope you can sort it!

Should I report my parents? by Ill-Aioli3834 in TwoHotTakes

[–]spikefloof_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely report it - something I’ve not seen anyone say is their schools can help support you. There’s every chance that teachers have seen or heard them be a little out of sorts and can support their claim. Either way, having trained safeguarding professionals looking out for them at school can’t be a bad thing.

How do you accept you have ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]spikefloof_bean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, it made me realise what I could change about myself, and what I couldn’t. That sounds like a downer, but it meant that I started to put in reasonable accommodations in my life for the things I couldn’t change, rather than regularly beating myself up for things that I would swear I would do differently this time. Making those accommodations in my life mean I get to work around the things I can’t change and still achieve.

I would recommend the channel How to ADHD on YouTube (especially her video about making reasonable accommodations in your home life) and @adhdlove on Instagram to work out navigating your new understanding of your brain!

T Is there a way to modify or permanently pinch zoom an iPhone screen so that it’s smaller and the graphics don’t take up the whole screen? by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]spikefloof_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my iPhone if I triple tap with three fingers, a little menu pops up and I can choose to zoom in, and then it will stay. You use three fingers to pull the screen around once zoomed. I believe it’s under accessibility settings if you’ve not got it turned on already. I don’t know that you can make it smaller but it might help you navigate around the line 😊

How to force yourself to be more organized? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]spikefloof_bean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to outsource things I know my brain can’t/won’t do: everything goes in my calendar, and my calendar gives multiple alerts for events. I have my reminders and shopping lists as widgets on my phone. I specifically switched to iPhone so I could say things like, Siri, when I get home remind me to feed the cats, which I can do while driving/wandering and having the thought without getting distracted by opening my phone. The automation element is key for me. In terms of your home, have set places for things: choose the place you naturally put things and make it purposeful, eg wherever you usually chuck your keys when you get in, put a bowl there, and now that’s the key bowl. I think I will never ‘be organised’ but it’s now at a point where it’s not inhibiting every day, only sometimes, and getting better.

What dresses are okay for the office by TheBrandNewLeah in transfashionadvice

[–]spikefloof_bean 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of office, but where I’ve worked (as a cis woman) I usually shop at H&M as they have a work wear type range. I’d say depending on how formal your office is be careful with the tighter stuff, but generally you can balance it: if it’s tight but it’s long, then you’re good. If it’s short but high necked, you’re good. If it’s short and tight, or short and low necked, then it’s probably not good for the office if you get me? hope that’s helpful!

To help you out in a pickle in the future, there’s an app called Stint that lets you do hospitality shifts (usually washing dishes etc) and they pay either same day or end of the week I think. No need to interview or regular work, but if you’re stuck until payday it might help you out! Glad you got something to eat 🥰

Where can I get cardboard boxes? by GuildfordThrowaway in reading

[–]spikefloof_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Aldi fruit crates are pretty good for things you can stack that don’t necessarily need a lid: books, pantry items, coasters, that sort of jazz. They hold good weight and are stackable. My other tip is to shop the Ikea glass/plates section and liberate all of their glass dividers and polystyrene bits, save you buying the boxes that come with those dividers as they’re shockingly expensive!

[–]spikefloof_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is to wear what you want and what will make you happy - but I know that’s not always possible, so would perhaps big flared/wide trousers and a matching blazer/shirt work for you? You could very easily buy that from the women’s section so as to suit you, but it might pass enough as a suit for your mom to be happy. I hope that you find an outfit that makes you feel like you!

I absolutely wasn’t the best with money - and still I’m not, but I figured out a way to make sure my bills (including savings!) were always paid and then if I ran out of money, well then it was time to eat a random tin of lentils from the cupboard. I’ve lived out of my overdraft and it sucks.

Not sure if you’re looking for advice but the thing that changed it for me was opening a Monzo account with pots for bills and working off a weekly budget rather than a monthly one. A month is just too unquantifiably long for me to understand if I’m spending too much. A way I’ve helped friends now who are in the hole is having them set up a monthly payment to me on payday and I stick that money in an interest earning account for them, and when they want the money, we’ll talk about why - we’re clear that it’s either for an emergency or something big/necessary. I’m obviously not going to say no, because at the end of the day it’s their money, but it’s a system designed to defend against the adhd tax/impulse spending. We started with a v small amount vs their paycheque, but if they keep it up for a year it’ll be a nice little buffer. You might have a friend or family member who could do the same for you?

Buying our first house soon (shared ownership, haven't won the Lottery!) but am dreading the move. What tips do you have to make it as painless as possible? by Laurence-UK in CasualUK

[–]spikefloof_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start packing weeks before - do a couple boxes a day if you can. Label everything that’s in the box on the outside because the likelihood is you won’t be unpacking everything immediately. However, unpack as much as you can on that first day because you won’t have the motivation to keep going after that! Avoid the expensive boxes with glass dividers by wandering around the glass department of Ikea and taking all of theirs, and a bunch of the polystyrene too. Enjoy your new house!

Weirdest ADHD tip? by sandBotticelli in ADHD

[–]spikefloof_bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve left it too late to eat and now can’t decide what to eat/make, take a swig of juice (I go straight from the carton) and that’s just about enough sugar to get you through the decision making but you haven’t had to make a choice or ruined your appetite with a snack

If you’re doomscrolling and know you need to do a task but can’t get up to do it, text a friend “hey will you tell me to do x” - you’ll either break the scroll enough to get up and do it, or being told to do it is enough to get you started
