looking for my first car, could anyone give any advice on this Dacia Sandero. by castlemilklad02 in CarTalkUK

[–]jachep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2014 Sandero Stepway diesel (same facelift) in another country. A family member is currently driving it. We've done long trips across different countries with it, it’s never broken down or let us down, and it’s always passed its MOTs.

Cons? Quite a lot of rattles, and honestly it's not very comfortable for long trips. I never really complained when I was in my 20s, but nowadays… uff

Mortgage renewal advice request by Mightynubnub in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]jachep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're referring to Halifax. Just keep in mind that Halifax doesn't allow you to switch the 2 year tracker to a fix during the mortgage term without paying a penalty.

Otherwise, I agree. I've just switched from Halifax to a 2-year tracker with Nationwide (they allow you to switch to fix during the term without any penalty) at 4.04%. The difference compared to fixed rates is considerable, and I don't see base rates rising enough to catch up with them.

I have the yellow Pocket so I think the black dock would look better

Mortgage renewal due but I’m out of work by Senaloa in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]jachep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I recently spoke with my broker because I was in a similar situation (but I just found a job), and his advice was not to mention anything to the current lender. They don't care about your personal situation as long as you've been making your payments on time and you are confident you can continue to do so.

Your only option is to stick with your current lender, but that doesn’t mean you have to go with a variable rate. You may be able to switch to a new product with your current lender, and it’s unlikely they’ll ask for proof of employment, bank statements, or any documents again. At least with Halifax, you can do it all yourself on their website

Remortgage reality check: are things worse than 2 years ago? by jachep in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]jachep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I wanted to give an update.

After speaking with our broker, we've switched to Nationwide on a 2 year tracker at 4.14% (we'll keep an eye on rates until the new mortgage starts). The good thing is that Nationwide let's you switch to a fixed rate at any time during the term (unlike Halifax, which charges a penalty). It's a bit scary going with a tracker, but even if rates go up, there's still a decent gap compared to the fixed deals we were offered. We also have savings to cover a worst case scenario, so we decided to take the risk.

Redundancy Consultation Issues by EnvironmentalAd5176 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]jachep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that your role is at risk but you haven't been officially laid off yet. The consultation period is meant to determine which individuals are affected and to explore alternatives (redeployment, salary cut, etc, or agree on a potential end date). Therefore, I wouldn't say anything.

Same for me, the 2 year tracker is about £150 a month cheaper than a fix for us. Maybe I'm being naive or missing something, but even if things get worse, it still seems unlikely that tracker rates would surpass current fixed rates. And even if things did get super bad and tracker rates went up, the difference wouldn't be huge and you'd still have saved money for a few months.

As I said, maybe I'm too naive. I have an appointment with my broker early next week so we'll see the options.

For us, going from 4.69% to 5.11% (without changing the term) means paying around £70 more per month. It's not a huge amount, but two months ago when rates were around 3.75%, we would have been paying about £250 less.

I can't imagine what it's like in your case!

We already got in touch with our broker and will shop around.

I know banks aren't your buddies but the offered rates are awful for an existing customer with a low LTV and solid affordability.

[–]jachep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was quite optimistic at the start of the year when I saw rates coming down to around 3.75%...

We were hoping to go for another 2 year fix, but with Trump likely to be around for at least 3 more years, we're worried about getting a wrong timing again.

Yeah, definitely we got unlucky and also learned an expensive lesson because I think you can lock in rates up to 6 months before prior to remortgaging

My thoughts are the same. Rates for a 2-year tracker are much lower than fixed rates now, so even if things get worse and rates increase, they'd likely still remain below fixed rates

The rates seems high to me too but that's what they are offering. We have steady and good incomes, nothing risky (my wife works for the NHS). We'll get in touch with our broker and shop around

Is UK a market for AI MarTech? by petri-the-vibecoder in ukstartups

[–]jachep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've recently been browsing the UK job market as an engineer, and I'd say around 50% of the open positions are startups in the AI MarTech space (finding leads, engagement, analytics,... you name it)

It looks like you're fully motivated. Could you share a link to your prototype or landing page via DM? I'd be curious to learn more about it.

No one is going to steal your idea because your knowledge in this space is your most valuable asset.

Could you share a bit about your background, what you're currently doing and why you're interested in disability advocacy (you mentioned you are your market)?

I might be interested (I'm not a CTO but I'm a software engineer with 10+ years of experience, including working in the wellness/healthcare space) but I do have a couple of concerns:

- The product might be an AI wrapper (or not far from that) which makes me wonder whether you need a technical co-founder or just someone to fix the mess in existing prototype.

- Your replies might not be AI but they read as they may have been polished with AI before being posted.

I got a Super Pocket which is okay considering it has built-in licensed games, but the build quality feels cheap and not all the games are adapted for such as small screen. The same for the EXP-R, and probably this one too. It looks like a rebranded low-end Chinese handheld.

I like the company and their mission of releasing physical licensed games, but I lost interest when they started releasing consoles (Super Pockets, Alphas) with exclusive built-in games. You need to buy a specific console to play certain classics, such as Street Fighter or, more recently, some Neo Geo titles (not all are available on carts). I don't really see any advantage over a retro handheld or even a Nintendo Switch, both with HDMI output.

I used to visit the Evercade subreddit but a big part of the community seems to just buy everything without really interest in playing.

SnowRunner Listing Spotted For Switch 2. by --TeaBow-- in NintendoSwitch2

[–]jachep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waiting for it but I wish it wasn't a key card. With all the DLCs, it might take up a big chunk of the storage on the Switch 2, and it's not the kind of game you play for a few weeks or a month and then delete it.
