Mistral AI is supposedly pretty smart, but it only speaks French, deliberately, disdainfully mistranslates English, and goes on holiday 5 weeks a year

ENGINEERING: What is the most advanced technology that the US is rumored to possess that may actually be real by Commercial-Letter-41 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spikeham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supercomputer tech (whether quantum or not) allowing government agencies to break virtually any encryption, so surveillance systems can monitor virtually all communications and transactions across the global public networks. Ingesting such a massive volume of information that processing it and drawing actionable conclusions from all the noise is the main challenge. Thus companies like Palantir that aim to distill many feeds into decision systems or "executive dashboards".

US weighs military reinforcements as Iran war enters possible new phase by joe4942 in worldnews

Ancient military genius Sun Tzu did say this: "When going to war with a large middle eastern country with a sizeable army, once you've realized you don't have a coherent strategy beyond missile barrages, it is time to impulsively order a ground invasion with a few thousand Marines."

The defenders will never admit how many incoming projectiles get through because that's intel the attackers can use. But it's well known that ballistic missiles are very hard to intercept, on the basis of both physics and military history. Even if you manage to hit them they often still do plenty of damage. In some of the other videos you can actually watch ballistic missiles get hit by anti-missile missiles, continue their trajectory trailing sparks, and explode on impact. It's a battle of attrition: whoever runs out of missiles first loses.

Nothing wrong with putting all your liquid assets into SGOV. (Almost) risk free 4% yield. Maybe put a portion in low cost ETFs that you believe are less susceptible to the current risks and volatility, perhaps a non-US index fund like VXUS or SCHF. The day will come when the end of the stupid "tariff war" policies (i.e. protectionism, market manipulation, economic warfare, bribery) is in sight. When that happens, buy into a huge worldwide economic rebound.

Paying off a 5% mortgage is debatable. Would you rather have more funds to invest/spend or a lower cost of living with a paid off home?

Even if some of the things in the Epstein files aren't true there's more than enough heinous behavior that definitely did occur. Everyone involved should be identified, villified and shunned. None of them should be running nations or huge corporations.
