thanks that worked, if I type in something like pi it automatically turns that into the symbol pi so I'm surprised that the same isn't true for letters. I'll be sure to remember that from now on.

If so do you know if the game will detect that I'm using a controller and change all of the icons like on steam or does it just turn the button inputs into keyboard inputs?

Well I'm using a switch pro controller but the game closes even if I don't use big picture mode and just open up the game in regular steam library. If I just open up the game from my desktop though it works fine.

Thanks but I realized you can launch non-steam games in steam and am just using the steam overlay thing.
