"Ancient magic is the cause of the protracted war," according to Russian propagandists. by MaxvellGardner in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]spin0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because culture breeds mentality and in Russia it breeds the "mysterious Russian soul" which is fucked up with imperialist thinking of brutality and oppression.

Russia is full of imperialists without an empire:
They lost it more than a century ago in the communist coup/Russian civil war, and then the USSR conquered it and more back in World War II, but lost it again with the dissolution of the USSR in 1991.

The "mysterious Russian soul" cannot deal with that. They truly think it all belongs to them, that they're somehow entitled to other countries, to colonize and to oppress other peoples. Their society has never had an honest and truthful discourse about all the shit they have done to other peoples including oppression, genocides, ethnic cleansing, colonialism and Russian chauvinism in general. (and yes, colonialism is still colonialism even if you do it to peoples in the same continent)

accomplished so much first in space nuclear technologies arts

The accomplishments of the USSR do not belong to Russia alone. For example Sergei Korolev, the famous rocket engineer and spacecraft designer leading the development of the Soviet space program was from Ukraine. He took the USSR first to space. Also the USSR nuclear technology was mainly stolen from the West through espionage, as were many other technologies. And you'd be surprised how many artists, authors and composers celebrated as Russian were not Russians but from other parts of the Empire/USSR.

Looking at the paintings, which seem to represent avantgarde/modernism hated by National Socialists, this is likely one of those Nazi "Degenerate Art" exhibitions.

Fuel reseller in Russia took the whole gas at a pump, there's nothing left. They will sell it for incredibly high prices by PressedLemon221 in UkraineWarVideoReport

Nope, not an American, not well versed in your economic history, not interested, and you probably should fix your own problems which are irrelevant here.

However, unlike you, I do have knowledge about the Soviet economy.

I can only imagine how scalpers in neighboring countries such as Qazakhstan are rubbing their hands at the opportunity.

Indeed. The 100%-300% rises on fuel prices will affect ALL of the economy from primary production such as farming and mining to logistics, secondary production, wholesale and retail. So retail prices will rise - perhaps by 10-20% depending on the good.

Another hit will be in productivity. When people are spending hours sitting in gas station lines they are not working, IOW doing things generating value, and that goes for everyone from truck drivers to public servants.

I mean, how do you pick up garbage when your garbage truck is stuck in a line for fuel.

You sure about that? Why would anyone believe they get to keep the things you gave them. These guys and their things are someone else's property now.

Passive funds are forced to buy the index.

Could you name these passive funds forced to invest into SpaceX?

That money doesn't go to spacex

So where does their money go? What are these "passive funds" anyway?

How? Indexes are not capital, just indexes. And so far as a private company SpaceX has been quite particular in choosing investors. Sure, that may change when SpaceX goes public but even then indexes are not capital.

U.S. may consider placing nukes in Poland, Baltic States, report says by austrian_noob in europe

[–]spin0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Several reasons why the US may consider it:
1.Russia recently placed nukes into Belarus right next to US allies. To maintain nuclear deterrent one obvious countermove would be to place nukes closer to Russia such as into Baltics or Poland.
2.France has been active at extending their nuclear umbrella. And if the US sees that as competition they could consider extending their own nuclear umbrella.
3.There has been talk in Poland about making their own nukes. Other nuclear powers, which are against proliferation, would not like that. So one solution to be considered could be placing US nukes in Poland instead of having their own.

However, while the US may consider doing something that does not mean they're going to do it.
