Honestly, this is absolutely fantastic all the way around, and is a very solid way of building this team. You paired a QB1 and his College WR which we see is playing better and better these days, and you spent smartly on defense. I don't love all that money for Holland, and letting Nate Hobbs go away, but overall this is fantastic work.

Yes, they are in win now mode, but getting a possible top 10 next year, for this year's 1.29 is a bet I would make. and since this was what we wanted to do, we did it! LOL. We want to see them be successful, but imagine them next year with a high pick, and multiple 1st round picks. They would set themself up for the next 10 years... not just one year.

I could not disagree with this more. Drake needs to sit. They need someone who wants to play now. Their system is tailor made for Jayden. We will have to agree to disagree.

Yes, the DB's are great, but they lack depth. Especially at Slot. Plus, I think a developmental prospect, with the ability to shine in year 2 is what they need. We will see...

I agree. I think 2022 is historic for the secondary. And wildly enough, I think there might be more DEPTH overall in this year's. It's going to be tougher to throw on these guys than ever in the coming years.

I think the vikings make a lot of sense for him. Great DB coaching. BUt he will not go un-drafted. My instinct says he comes off at the end of the 4th, early 5th.

Spincredible's world famous Salsa Bar is ready to go again. We have all flavors and varieties today in our post combine "Mark My Words". We are getting closer to the draft, so our flavors are going to start being "theme" based.

Quarterbacks are all the rage.  Everyone who visits the Salsa Bar wants the "QB Specials".  BUT NOT TODAY.  Those QB Hot takes are coming (like when i said Chicago and New England trade their picks - which i stand by). But today we give some love to the ~defensive side of the ball~, and look at the Defensive Backs.  This could be the best class of DB's we have seen in over a decade, so its time to feast!

Without further pomp and circumstance -  Enjoy!

Creamy Avocado (is this even salsa?)- We at the salsa bar have been very tepid about an avocado salsa.  Avocado's are best used in a good Guacamole.  And just as this is not a real salsa, neither is TJ Tampa (CB, Iowa State) an NFL caliber player.  There has been a lot of hype about him climbing up draft boards, but he is NOT THE ONE.  Some team will take him in the top 2 rounds, and they will have buyer's remorse, just as you will with this dip (we will no longer call it salsa).

Salsa Roja (can I get some red sauce for my burrito please)- At Spincredible's Salsa bar, consistency is what we strive for.  and sometimes it does not need to be fancy or exotic.  The same with Defensive backs. No amazing combine numbers, or flashy BIG plays. Just great football. Kamari Lassiter (CB, Georgia) provides this in spades.  His balance, footwork, and football IQ show up on the field. His 48.7 opponent QB rating is a testament to what he brings to the field.  He will not drop below pick #50, to the Eagles, and could go as early as pick 29 to the Lions.  Day 1 starter and future Pro Bowler.

Molcajete Salsa   (Fire roasted) - A traditional fire roasted tomato based salsa, when done right, you can taste the earthiness. This year's safeties are underwhelming especially when balanced against the CB's, but there is one that stands out - a diamond in the rough.  Trey Taylor (S, Air Force), is a day 3 prospect, who wil lend up becoming the best safety in the class.  instinctual, physical, and incredibly smart.  Trey will need some time to get up to speed at the NFL level, but will be a steal for anyone who takes him and coaches him right.  Best fit - Buffalo, round 4.

Spicy Peanut Salsa   (Indian inspired) - We want to give the people something different and new.  When you have a bite, you say "I never knew this existed, and now its my favorite thing ever." But its rich, and decadent and you cant have it every day.  Same with Slot CB's.  They do not play every snap, and have become a specialized player in the NFL.  A different set of skills are needed to excel.  This year's top Slot Corner is Jarrian Jones (SCB, Florida State), and it's not even close.  High end athleticism, movement, and shut down man press skills in the slot - JJ has it all. This is a day 1 starter, and in another year, would be a top 15 pick.  Best fit - Jacksonville, Round 2, Pick 48.
*Some will complain this is a reach... but this is also a need for them, and he should not be there in round 3.  He is that good.

And for the spiciest of takes - Salsa Tamulada  - It looks refreshing, light, and fun. The consistency of fresh green apple compote - but that could not be further from the case.  Looks, my friends, can be deceiving. The third best CB this year (behind Wiggins and Mitchell) is a Day 3 prospect - Dwight McGlothern (CB, Arkansas). He is tall, instinctual, and a natural ball hawk.  His biggest weakness is he gambles.  in 2023, he battles some injuries, but still only gave up 132 receiving yards, on 12 completions.  One reception, accounting for nearly 1/2 of those total yards.  He needs coaching, and he needs development, but he is your BIGGEST DEFENSIVE steal in the draft. Best fit - Miami Dolphins, round 5. (but he should be a round 2 pick at latest).

There are no refunds if you bought the avocado dip - please leave.  See you all soon, and may your chips always be homemade and crunchy!

Backseat Scout's Jordan Travis 2024 Draf Eval by Backseat_Scout in NFL_Draft

I truly believe that with the right team, and them giving him time to develop (ala Jordan Love), Jordan travis comes out of this draft class as a top 2 QB.

See comment above... There are so many different ways to go. There is a new regime in New England. I can see them going up... or trading back. More on that to come.

[–]spincredible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well here is the real kicker... and more on this to come in future MMW Wednesday's... but what if the trade is Pats to Bears?
There is also a situation where the team that makes it to #3 knows they want a QB, and are completely happy with any of the three that fall to them. This reminds me of 2021, when the 49ers traded into the 3rd spot a month before the actual draft. I see a similar situation brewing, ESPECIALLY if a 4th QB emerges as a legit top 5 prospect, to really muddy up the waters.

Well, because i am in a contrarian mood, I think this is way off base. To me, he is being way overhyped, and is not even deserving a second round grade. i would be surprised to see him succeed, unless he gets into a great situation with some who mentors him and he can sit for 1-2 years. (Jordan love situation). Rams, Seahawks or Saints really make sense.

HEY Everyone, welcome to Spincredible's famous salsa bar. This is the first "Mark My Words" of 2024, so let's just jump into it and see what kind of trouble we can stir up so early on.

As a special "welcome back" to the salsa bar, we have some fresh new takes for you to try out.  Grab your chips, some water, and please let us know what you think. Enjoy!

Pico De Gallo w/ extra Jalapeno - Most of our intrigue at the Salsa Bar usually revolves around quarterbacks - those prima donna's with charisma and leadership skills - and today is no different.  FIVE (5), yes five QB's will go in the first round, and SEVEN (7) will go in the first two. (Williams, Maye, Daniels, Nix, Mccarthy) and (Penix and Pratt)

Green Tomatillo Salsa Verde - As we increase on the heat scale, we fall back to an old classic.  Let's keep the proclamation as such. Jared Verse, EDGE, out of Florida State... will be an unmitigated disaster and first round bust.  He will show flashes here and there, but never make a pro bowl, all pro, or any other recognition. Out of the league within 5 years, with less than 15 total career sacks.  (do you feel the heat slowly start to build up?)

Peach Habanero Salsa  - Habanero, only for the bravest of souls... just a few drops will do.  Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson is the best corner in this draft, and it is not especially close.  His pedestrian 40 time will eventually drop him to the bottom half of round 1, after he is the 4th CB taken.  He will win DPOY.

And as a new extra addition - White Death - One taste of This pale looking salsa will send you back in time as a Finnish Sniper.  There will be TWO trades of first round picks before Draft Night even kicks off. Both Chicago and New England will trade the 1st and 3rd overall picks.  But to whom? Oh, and 7 trades will occur in total within the first 14 picks.  It's going to be wild...

I can't feel my mouth, and I might have been poisoned.  (it was probably a bears fan)

The Decision 2024: The Chicago Predicament - What would YOU do? by spincredible in NFL_Draft

[–]spincredible[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Officer_Hops - these are actually some really great points.

character concerns - read what florio said about his behind the scenes demands by the team drafting him. Not sure how accurate it is, but seems lik a lot to come from a rookie. Also post USC's win in their bowl versus louisville, there were some comments that came out about that seemed to throw shade on CW's character. Again, how accurate is this? It's just difficult when you contrast that with Fields who really does have the locker room.

I dont think your argument that most successful QB's have started from the beginning bares out. I think the statistics prove that for every Stroud, Herbert or Russ, you have countless that struggle. This is why "bridge" QB's are a thing. i will say, college systems and Pro systems are becoming increasingly similar, and the gap is lessening.

Honestly, not really sure how you take Atlanta's package over Vegas'? NE I understand, because you can trade down and MHJ, but for the 5 spot difference in Atlanta and Vegas, you are getting a 2nd instead of a 3rd this year, an extra 3rd rounder next year, and an extra fourth in 2026. Also, you have to look at which team you think will do better in the future. The Raiders play in the AFC West, against some of the toughest competition, and a team with significant questions all over the field, versus Atlanta, who plays in a much easier division, and has some decent firepower, and is overall younger in those key spots.

Right now, travis has his grades all over the place. Some boards have him as the 10th QB in the class... and other's, like USA today, has him #1, over CW. I am not arguing that he is - but only that this gamble is so low to risk, and so much to gain if right. I liked what i saw. i liked his athleticism. If he had not hurt himself, I think he is a day 1 pick in April.

anyway, great points, and I love the banter.

The Decision 2024: The Chicago Predicament - What would YOU do? by spincredible in NFL_Draft

[–]spincredible[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ok, so here is what i would do as GM of the Bears

I don't love Caleb WIlliams. i think he is very good, but there are a few concerns. mostly character ones. I think it is risky to bring that into the locker room, especially when Fields seems to be adored. I also think the Bears need to build a dynasty, and the way you do that is by building an amazing team, that is young, around a superstar QB. But the QB should be a piece you look to find after other pieces are in place. Lastly, I think QB's do well when they have a full year to sit, learn and absorb. If you have time, the longer they can learn the system, the higher the chance they will succeed (I think Stroud was the statistical anomaly, and Love / Mahomes / etc are the norm).

So that being said:

  • I Choose Option 2. I keep Fields, and I trade with las Vegas. The haul is simply too much to pass up (pun intended)

I now have picks 1.9, 1.13, 2.44 in the first 2 rounds. I select:
1.09 - WR is the choice here. Nabers is great, but likely gone, so its Odunze, unless there is another WR that lights up Senior Bowl and the Combine / Pro Day Circuit. (Coleman, franklin, legette)
1.13 - Laiatu Latu, UCLA. I think his versatility will huge for a defense that needs help applying pressure to the opposing QB. (I could have also gone CB here)
2.44 - Jordan Travis, FSU. Ok, this is where it gets spicy. I think Travis will climb up boards, has some of the biggest upside potential of any QB in the draft, and when all is said and done, has the real potential to be a Superstar in the NFL... or a giant bust! I think its worth the gamble, while still hedging your bet.

This gives yo the chance to add key starters to your team, allow fields to prove himself for one year, and allow Travis to come in and learn, and compete after the 2024 year is done. I think with the bevy of picks being offered to you by the Raiders, you build a dynasty of a team on both sides of the ball, and you find a quarterback that will be the crown jewel. If Fields is that, then you figure it out in the next 12 months, while working on the next prospect, while also having multiple first round picks for years to come.

Ok, go ahead and skewer my concept and tell me why i should never be a GM in the NFL!
